How do I install Stonesense?
« on: November 18, 2009, 09:32:37 pm »

Is the answer right under my nose and I can't see it?

There's all sorts of stuff on their wiki but nothing when I search: "Install."

http://stonesense.wikia.com/wiki/Special:Search?search=install&go=1

Do I just put this file somewhere? If so where?

erm... download from here
http://code.google.com/p/stonesense/downloads/list

Use a zip/rar opening program like winrar to open it and move the files in there into your DF folder.

Open DF, and then run the Stonesense.exe file

Thanks, looks like I'm stealing winrar again (it should be included for what I paid for this thing).

Wonderful, but do I need to do anything to get it to show realtime movements like on the Stonesense Youtube video (I have a brand new computer with quad core so fps is 100).

As of right now it seems to display still images, in its own separate window. Normal?

Should I install it anywhere particular?

Press + or - buttons on the numpad (far right side of full keyboards)

You can adjust the time to be lower in the init.txt file where you installed stonesense.

It'll be under [AUTO_RELOAD_STEP:50] and make it as low as you wish.

Neat,

I made that number 1, and then 15, the images remained stills. Strangely, when i held down the "B" button, things got moving.

Any ideas why?

I would just hit the + a couple times on your numpad opposed to triggling the files, just because its a simple solution and a very easy thing to do.

+ and - change whether the auto reload is active, and how often it auto reloads. The init setting is how much it changes by each time you hit + or -

1) unzip file
2) run DF
3) run stonesense
4) watch the miners gain a spider sense

You do realize that winrar is entirely free, right? once your 'trial' period runs out you just have to close one little pop-up every time you open it.
Course, stealing it is also easier.

When you "steal" it, you don't have the pop up window.

I'm still having a lil trouble with the whole plus and minus thing; go figure. Overall I'd have to say that just pressing B seems to work for me so far, until I can figure this out. I have edited the init file to vary values with little success. I'll deal I guess.

7-zip supports RAR (along with many, many others) and is a free, open source option.

Exactly the version I have.

There seem to be some interesting applications I'd like though, as an example, there is a sprite for windows, but not GEM WINDOWS. Thus gem windows show up as a yellow placeholder box. I wonder how one designates certain pictures to be used as sprites for certain things.
