Idea: Supernatural Mafia

I've been thinking about doing bits of this for a while now.  Also, based on an idea from Mephansteras in the Paranormal thread, it seems like it would be interesting to separate some of the supernatural ideas from Paranormal into their own game.

At it's core, Supernatural Mafia is the human town versus a monstrous mafia.  The difference is that there is a wide variety of possible monsters to afflict the town with and the aren't necessarily going to work together.

Anyways, I've hammered out a fair few roles, some from Paranormal Ideas, some from mafiascum.net, some I made up on the fly.  I cannot guarantee that it will be totally balanced, but I hope it will at least be fun.

Why is the hunter unable to kill multiple nights if they kill a townie?  Bad enough when a vig kills a townie, but you double wound it afterwards.

Vamp won't have a chance to recruit.  Typical games last only 3 days unless scum start dying. 

Cubs makes the werewolf pack too powerful.  Alpha is already immune to night actions and a dead cub gives them 2 kills as well!?

zombie is basically a cult with a small backlash at times.  VERY powerful

Lich really is too powerful.

Demon sounds odd... unsure if he's too weak or WAYYYY too strong.



Overall, though, it's a weakish town against some very strong scum.

Partially, that's the idea.  With some of these tweaks, I think I've helped that.  Another thing that helps the town is that there will be (at least) 2 different kinds of monsters that do not (generally) know about each other.

Most monsters will spawn as individuals (and are weak to getting randomly killed off quickly) although the Werwolves and Zombies will appear as groups.  Therefore, there's the possibility of the monsters being slowed down by targetting each other.

Even more so, the Vampires, Werewolves, and Zombies have to kill each other off to win and the Demon has his own independent goal as well (he may actually want to help townies that he's collected already because a dead player's soul really doesn't help at all).  Really, only the Ghost and Lich might want to help other monsters.

Also, one rule tweak would be banning PMs.  There Werewolves and Vampires would have Quick Topics (but not the Zombies) and the Medium can use PMs with one dead player per night, but that's it.

How do you think the new tweaks affect things?

Actually, now that I think about it, this should be on the game type thread.  This should be more for requests to get your game in the que and when your game ended.

Well, I'm torn between making one of two Mafias-making a "Stereotype Mafia" or a "School Mafia".

In "Stereotype Mafia", there's a ton of Stereotyped people (eg. Vampires, Old Ladies, Punks), who are split into two catagories-Good and Evil. Every role will have some sort of power. Some players' roles will "break the stereotype", and be on the opposite allignment, and possibly have different powers. Instead of winning with Town or Mafia, you win with your allignment-Good or Evil.

"School Mafia" bends the rules a bit. Instead of there being a Mafia, there is a bunch of Punks who have done heavy structural damage and graffiti vandalism. Players start with the keys to one room and a can of coloured spray paint. During the night, players can either use their night ability, lend their keys to someone else or spray a message to the room they have keys to. One of the Punks MUST spray something. During the day, players decide between them what story they will tell, and ultimatly, who they will blame. There will most likely be some other quirks in between, so...

Btw, I'm NOT running a hammer game again. 

A hardcoded limit perhaps (24 hours might be steep...48 perhaps) but NOT hammers.

Ok, we need to decide how will we decide how many games go on at any time.

Two ways to do it.. one is easier, the other (to me) more accurate.

Easier: Hard coded number of games to run, including taking up signups.  I believe 8 is our limit: that's when we started noticing the attendance problems.  13 is really causing issues.

More Accurate: Base it on the number of players the game starts off in.

i.e 8 games at 9 players a game = 72 players 

Thus we can have more games if there's fewer playing in each game. 

Note 1: MOST accurate would be if we kept track of players alive in each game, but that's asking for a lot of upkeep from Meph.


Note 2: All of the active games have a Starting Player count of 118

That's a lot of people playing mafia!

I like the idea of players per game, since it lets smaller mafias start without preventing a larger game from going on. A reasonable compromise could be players alive in each game on a best-effort basis, so mods could PM meph and he could update it when he had time.

What we really need is an automated system. Maybe a communal Google spreadsheet or something of that nature?
