Would there be any interest in a "Bidding Mafia?"

Say you list out several powers, and each player starts with some amount of points to bid with.

Players would bid certain amounts for the listed powers, and any bids they win would give them that power.

Meh?

Interesting.  Would the bids be public or private?  Would the powers be listed ahead of time, or only one at a time as they came up?  Would scum/3rd parties get more/less points?  Could scum share points or coordinate bidding?

Might be one for the gametype thread to flesh out.

Basically, I couldn't decide on which would work best. Just wanted to see how it'd fare, before I tried to flesh it out.

Two ideas that I've thought about running:
  • Twitter Mafia - All posts in 140 characters or less, no consecutive posts
  • Groundhog Day Mafia - Bastard Mod based on the film

Thoughts?

As long as you had some mechanism for quoting, the twitter one could be kind of fun.

Hmm.  I was thinking no quotes, but you could link posts using a hashtag of their reply number.

Quote from: Example (with 52 characters)
In #1983 JTF is clearly scum because he used a list.

With the '#1983' being five characters.

A little more work for players to click the links, but the posts will be short enough that you should be able to get right to the point.

It's easy enough to get a character count, just use a word editor or online tool.

I'd try it, Janus.  I'd suggest roles screwing with the limit/theme as well.

Ah, so it's characters post-formatting.  Gotcha.

For the most part. Formatting should be kept to a minimum though. The alternative would be to quote posts (which eat up a lot of space) or force full URLs (which would eat up a *lot* of characters without a URL shortener).

I'm not sure if gametype specific roles would be better or standard roles. Could be interesting either way.

Twitter Bidding Groundhog Day Mafia?

Bidding would be interesting and easily doable on IRC.

That it would. In fact, I kind of want a Bidding IRC Mafia variant.

That makes me wonder how well a mafia game with a voted power would work.

So you have a mountainous/near mountainous game that's mostly normal. Except that in addition to the lynch each day you also vote on who gets that day's power. The mod would cycle it, mostly likely, so it'd be something like 'inspect' day 1 and 'roleblock' day two or something like that.

That might make for a really interesting dynamic.
