...how about two assassins?
Whichever kills the king wins, and if they both kill him at the same time, the kills cancel and nothing happens?

Usually they would be on teams, but that actually sounds more fun. Risk vs. Reward.

By definition that makes you a fan since you still buy them.

What about a Prince role? His identity and townitude is known to the guards, he is not a target for the assassin(s), and perhaps he has someone whose wincon is for the Prince to come out alive. Alternatively, the President and Prime Minister, and each assassin has his own target.

That strategy has further downsides in a forum environment. Since EVERYONE should vote for whomever the first person votes, if that first person votes the king must be the assassin. Meaning the first person who gets voted by everyone instead of followed knows he voted the king.

Doooooooooorp.
Since EVERYONE should vote for whomever the first person votes, if that first person votes the king must be the assassin.
if that first person votes the king must be the assassin.
the king must be the assassin.

Lolwat?

Fixed it in the post you quoted. Should make sense now.

Also, I like the President and Prime Minister one - each has an assassin. Each leader has X bodyguards (know the identity of ONLY their guy) and there are Y conference security who know both.

I could run my version of Squeegy's Werewolf. Would anyone be interested?
I'm just going to go ahead with this.

Okay, how about this Assassins in the Palace Varient:

Srsly gaiz

Everyone is an assassin and a target. They are also a guard to (SOME NUMBER) of other doodz. Lynchings don't count as kills for teh assassinz.

The "lynch whoever gets voted first" tactic breaks down if the assassin votes first.  If the assassin votes the king... game over.  Indeed, if the assassin is quick off the mark every day, they can guarentee their own victory :P.

The solution is to have every guard pretend another non-king player is the king and act accordingly.

Assassin votes randomly. Everyone piles assassin. Assassin thinks it's king. Game over.

No, just randomly unvote other players every so often.

I'm reminded of one game where not only did a guard put the king a vote away from being lynched, another guard came in an HAMMERED THE KING! Luckily one of the other guards voting for him voted someone else, but still, that was stupid. The assassin wasn't even on the wagon at all. I think we still managed to lose that round.

I do remember a game where webadict got lynched as king.

And yeah, randomly unvoting players is better, but then the assassin starts being able to get a read.  It's kindof the reverse of normal mafia, in that you have an informed majority and an uninformed minority with an easy win condition.

Yeah. Wuba was the king, I was a guard who was never told who the king was. :I

I still wasn't the one who hammered though.
