How about moi?

And Toony doesn't live in Texas. IIRC, I saw some East coast thing that he apparently was mentioned in. Something like that.
Where the heck is Mt. Laurel, New Jersey?
Hell if I know. I'm in Plymouth, MA right now but live elsewhere.
Maine? Bah!

Go back to Jersey.

I demand humbly request a (Near-)Mountainous Mafia! I am disliking role-centric games more and more. I refuse to join another until I get a (Near-)Mountainous Mafia!

Yup--I'll be running one very soon.  Just sit tight a little bit longer, please ^_^;;

(I have a really big RL project I need to get out of the way first)

Okay. A discussion in BYOR4 got me thinking about a new series of game variants.

You know the quintessential RVS question, "Who would you want as your scummbubbies if you were mafia?", right? Well, what if the question were actually relevant?

The mod rolls to see which of the players is the godfather(may or may not have godfather powers) and that person chooses two other players to make the scumteam. While there probably will be balance issues with letting people sculpt their scumteam, it could be balanced out with Town power roles.

There could even turn out to be changes in how the game plays out. There could be questions of whether a player is likely to be picked for the scum and plenty of reverse-reverse psychologies possible. Or say that the godfather gets lynched Day1. The resulting days could be spent theorizing about their likely picks.

The biggest issue I see is the kickball problem. Nobody wants to consistently be picked last, and in a game where skill means everything, it would be a major concern. This is mitigated somewhat by the randomness of the godfather pick, and might be mitigated further by the aforementioned reverse psychologies ("Yeah but who would pick Eduren for the scumteam, lololololol, lets just ignore him") where players might be picked for their unlikeliness.

Of course it also might not be fun for the uber-veterans (webadict never makes it past day 1) but we already see some of that going on in regular games.

What do you think?

PS: Working title is Bring Your Own Scum Buddies

That's a pretty good idea, besides the guy who's always picked last.

I like the idea. Make it a Mountainous game (Godfather is normal Mafia but with team-picking ability) and I'm there.
