... I'm almost ready to say I'll host BVM1: Beginner's Vengeful Mafia 1.
[...]The intention being that if you manage to WIN this game, you can sit at the grownup's table. I think this is a fair and hard enough trophy, and worthy enough to encourage newbies to try their best. If they don't win, they can try again. And again. And again.
Hmm... rereading, that didn't come out as I hoped. Yeah, it does seem too elitist, and was not my intention to imply people couldn't join games until they won that. I blame the unfortunate wording on having posted late at night and while intoxicapated. Apologies to all who may have been offended or turned off from participating due to that; it was unintentional.
The point I was trying to make was to start a series of games one step beyond BMs, for newbies trying to hone their skills, and give those who win a cookie, an honorary trophy of some kind that they could feel good about, and it being cool enough to encourage them to try their best. The "sitting at the grownup's table" was a lame attempt to express that, but didn't mean it to say you
can't play unless... I agree that in principle anyone can play anything unless there are strong reasons against it or the mods/majority of players object.
I do think a second beginner-friendly series is needed, where emphasis is made on behaviours/customs that are needed for a new player to improve, but that are not stringently enforced in BM games. Things like not editing posts, lurking, prods,
proven ability to read and write,
playing to win and the like. A game where mistakes have consequences, and where if you are successful you'll earn some bragging rights. I welcome ideas on how this could be done. Being considered a "grown up" I think is cool, but yeah, it does send the wrong connotations.
It'd probably take me a bit to get set up, and since you're obviously jonesing for it right now, I say go for it. Absolute worst case I'll run BVM 2 concurrently, or something.
I was at the moment of writing, but it was what they call a "vampire idea". Badass scary cool during the night, but vanishes in a puff of ash when the sunlight hits it. I'm not as gung-ho about it now, so if you'd like to call dibs I'm certainly cool with that. Otherwise, if there's interest and a bit more discussion, I could probably set it up for signups over the weekend or some time next week.
