Do you guys think if I was to run a game around now it would get any players? Do you think I'm too new to mafia to make one?

I have a 12-player open setup game in my head, but I'm not sure if I could pull it off.
What do you guys think? Would you need to see the roles to be able to tell?

Read one of the latest Paranormal games.  Can you do that (from a modding standpoint)?

If so, go for it!

I'm not sure how you'll do so far as active players, but I could be convinced to play if you have an interesting setup and promise to be a good mod.
I wasn't planning on making it as complicated as a Paranormal game. Most of the roles would be like roles that already exist, but just have different names. Do you think me listing my ideas here would help?

Yes.  At the very least, you can get some feedback.  If you want to run a closed setup game, don't, but then you should advertise it as such and still get someone to look over your roles.  A second set of eyes never hurts.

Although I didn't mean that it had to be nearly as complicated as Paranormal.  I meant post regular vote counts, let us know a time when the days/nights are scheduled to end (don't run a hammer game, it won't go well), and include some flavor (not necessary, but generally fun to read).

Well, you can do that (although this isn't technically the place for it). You could also post in the game development thread or you can start a specific discussion thread on your game.

If you want to see the kind of work thats involved in the actual hosting of the game you can co-host my game. (building a working setup is another thing, and I vote support of the notion of letting other players look over your system for balance until you have a few games under your belt)

I think it would be better if a first game I made would be open setup. Anyway, I guess I'll list the things I came up with.

Spoiler: roles. (click to show/hide)

I'm guessing the correct number of mafia for a 12 player game is three, right?
Does it look okay to anyone?  :-\

Yeah, 3 mafia is pretty normal for 12 players.

That's a really weak town, but I think it's ok. It's better than mountainous, so that's something.

Hmm...I've never been a big fan of CCGs - I mean, I did and still do collect Pokemon cards, but I never got heavily into the battling and trading thing.

By definition that makes you a fan since you still buy them.

Wow, really? As I posted it I kind of thought it was town sided.  :P
That's why I added the king/queen/jester stuff.

Jester shouldn't target at all.  Then the Queen gets 100% accurate results.

That's what I had before, but then I realised that would be two cops getting accurate results.
Should I change it so the jester just has to be alive for the queen to get real results?
The royalty still wouldn't know whether they're the king or queen.

What? Don't you think 2 normal cops in a game is too much? If they knew which they were, they'd just report their report backwards.
Or do you think the Queen should just lose their report power entirely?

I wasn't commenting on the mechanics behind it at all. I was commenting on the quote itself.

It's a little strange that a King wouldn't know if he was the King or Queen.

I maintain that the jester should still do nothing though.  It's much better to be insane all nights than sane at some times and insane at others.
