Diary of Teranta, Spearman. We moved out today, at the head of a huge army the city was emptied. But a skeleton guard remained. We set out with 2
spear companies, 2 slinger companies and 2 sword companies. Leading us were the almighty chariots of Barae and his brother.
-Summer-We marched for the whole season until we finally reached and went over the border into the lands of Ratae. Fighting was
going to be up ahead, we all knew it. Some of us were scared, but no one ever said that they were. Myself, I was scared.
What would become of my wife and family if I die?
News came from home awhile ago, Barae's other brother, leader of said skeleton guard, aparantly gained an armourer.
There's a commotion on the edge of the camp, I'll go check it out.
Good and bad news. An army was seen on the horizon, we're going into formation now. Goods news however, a smaller
force came to us, saying they had heard of Barae's great cause and joined us for nothing. Even better, some of them are cavalry!
Perhaps we'll survive this coming battle!
From the Perspective of Barae“Move up you bastards, for death or love defeat these foes before us!”
The great army marched forward, outnumbered they believed in themselves. By the great grace of the gods they would win, or die
trying. They moved up to just outside of the range of the enemies skirmishers.
“Barae!”
“What?”
It was the commander of the slingers. Calling to Barae on the left flank on his great chariot. Before the slingers were the main
line, lightly armoured soldiers, on the right flank was the cavalry skirmishers. On the left was both Barae and his brother, in front
of the line were the skirmishers.
“The slingers are in range!”
“Then fire!”
The slingers started unloading onto the enemy, at first the enemy tried to stay and not get hit, they wanted us to attack. But their
soldiers were getting angrier and angrier. With screams and hollers the enemies charged down into our line, getting hit by javelins
and stones many fell. When they did hit, many enemies ran.
“Hold you curs!”
The line looked about to buckle, the men held together and pushed the enemy back. Again and again they assaulted, again and again
they fell. So did we, outnumbered we slaughtered the enemy. They started to send in their heavier units, better armoured than us they
charged into our line. It was cleaved in two, but the two groups held.
With a great battle cry the great chariots hit the enemy, many fell, even more ran. The chariots held the left line, but the right was buckling.
Slingers, out of ammo ran and charged into the superior enemy, for king and country they fought and killed. Both the mercenary cavalry and
the mercenary spears fled from the field of battle. Yet the slingers held the line, against innumerable odds they survived and pushed them back.
The enemy started to run, it changed into a flood. We had won!
From the Perspective of Teranta.“We won! We won!”
The spearmen cheered, bodies around their feet of both friend and foe. Teranta had survived the battle. Barae quickly gathered them
together and marched forward. In a column the army marched, they were wearied but well fed. Over the rise they marched and came
face to face with a city, a small wall surrounded the city. No one could be seen and the doors were closed. Would they fight? A small
band of chariots went forward from the column, and demanded entrance.
The most valiant company went forward, for Barae had watched. That company was a spearman company, that of Teranta's. They filed
in while the rest of the army camped outside. Barae and his brother walked among them and eventually to the chief of the villages home.
Inside were presumably the elders of the village.
In the great wooden hall, the company of 60 shuffled in. Barae approached the elders who bowed towards him with a sword outstretched
with the hilt out. Barae grasped the sword and lifted it and looked at it.
What was to happen?
