Did this degenerate into alcohol thread?
« on: November 15, 2009, 10:23:49 am »

Lately I'm interested in drugs.

Not that kind of drugs you sick bastard!
I was talking about medical smart drugs.

What are the availble substances (No amphetamine I'm trying to be legal here!)
Where to get them? Most substances I know about need a prescription.
I know how to get past this, since most energry drinks contain Aniracetam
EDIT:<nothing happened here>
Any other advice on this?

Finally feel free to kick and stab me for such an unmoral thing and advise me to NOT take those.
But then I want to know legal and easily availble substances that enchance the mind.
Thank you for lack understanding in advance  ;)

You are 15, your brain is still developing. I think messing with it, especially now, would be a very bad idea. A lot of the "nootropics", or smart drugs are regulated and you wouldn't be able to legally get them without a prescription. Some of them have not been around long enough to know what the possible long term ramifications of using them would be. Also a lot of their use as "smart drugs" only have annecdotal evidence to say they improve brain function, many of them were designed for other uses and their use as a brain enhancer is still a grey area.

I would strongly recommend against fooling around with drugs, especially at your age. In the long run you could end up doing harm to yourself, it isn't worth it.

I heard it improves concentration.

It crashes you. In general, whatever drug you take, there is a harmful side effect.

I say do not depend on those, as you will continue to do so. I also hear that excercise manages to improve concentration via getting more oxygen to the brain, but all I can say is that it makes me a happier person. Not that I excecise much nowadays, but still.

Coffee is fantastic until you end up dependent on caffeine. Then it's still great but you end up having loads of it.

That made my day

Alcohol and smoking is also bad for health, yet socially aceptabble. If I'm willing to risk my health then I mean it, besides I'm not going to take anything yet, this talk is fully hypothetical.

Biggest problem with coffe (and similar substances) is that at first it gives you a boost, but after a while you drop to a level well below before you drank coffee.

As for stuff that improves your prestations, learning mneomnics could help, but that's not a substance.

Eat candycanes and drink orange juice at the same time. It does wonders.

Unless you have a giant mug of double-espresso strength coffee in the morning, at lunch and at dinner.
The down from a week of that kind of consumption is awful though, although I end up enduring it because it's the only think keeping me functional in the week.
A good beer (or three) is also nice. A proper draught beer at a good pub is a joyous thing to behold.

Forget caffeine. There is no situation in which the use of caffeine would be beneficial to you. If you need to work past midnight and be alert next morning, you have a serious planning error.

There are a few things you could do to better yourself:
  • Exercise regularly
  • Eat healthy (Eat food. Not too much. Mostly plants.)
  • Get enough sleep. 8–10 hours for you.

At your age you shouldn't be using such drugs.

Go get yourself Rudin's Principles of Mathematical Analysis.  Start working through it.  You will end up much smarter than when you started, and very good at math to boot.  That book alone will greatly increase your logic, concentration, and intellect.

Oh, you wanted an easy solution.  Sorry, but there aren't any.

Plese be serious people  ;)

I'm talking about substances that increase concentration and help work longer.
There have to be some. Red bull has one (see op. post) and it increases mental capacities for extended mental strain

Are you serious? If you want to have any kind of long-lasting concentration improvement, stay the hell away from energy drinks. They'll buzz you for a little while, but after a while the only way you'll be able to concentrate at all is after drinking them. I've seen more than enough energy drink zombies at my school, they're bad news.

Edit: @florian: No need to call anyone an idiot here, let's try to be nice.

Yes there are. However, they are not the solution to your problem. Do you even know what your problem is? Your problem is that you are an idiot and cannot comprehend that your lifestyle is unsustainable. And I was like you. But I grew up and accepted that there are problems that such drugs will not solve.

Here is what you do: You try to live healthily. You try to get enough sleep (and do not shit yourself, 6 hours is not enough). You go out and get to know people. Have sex (or not). Exercise. Find your inner peace. Be happy.
