Teensy question...
« on: November 15, 2009, 02:55:29 am »

So, I've been seeing all these LP threads popping up, and people keep trying to make the game somehow dwarfier.  They'll try and pick dwarven traits, make characters shorter, give women beards, basically whatever it takes to make things just that little bit closer to home.

So, what I'm wondering is, why has no one done a Let's Play of Diggles?

I mean, come on...  Here are a bunch of dwarves or dwarf-analogs who have to dig deep down into the underground in order to retrieve Odin's pet puppy, Fenris (okay, so they're being slightly loose with Norse mythology here, but whatever.  Fenris is still a massive and destructive wolf-god thingy, but Odin just thinks of him as a cute little puppy).

The game features dwarves (admittedly, they don't have very impressive beards.  However, when the dwarf king agreed to aid Odin, he did so with the promise that his people would receive both mead and the ability to grow large, luxuriant beards as compensation, so it evens out) who are impulsive, emotional, have poor pathfinding skills, carve stone with little more than their hands (until they get better equipment), raise hamsters as food, mounts, and energy sources, and rely on large underground mushrooms for both lumber and food.

They are also notoriously moody.  I can't tell you how many times I had my entire food production force, from the farmers to the chefs, simply stop working and parade around in protest because they were unhappy.

What were they unhappy about?  Not having any food.  That's right folks, they stopped making food because they were hungry.  It's not a tantrum spiral, but damned if it doesn't work just fine.

Heck, the game even features quantum stockpiles.  You can build a large storehouse, place tons of items into that storehouse, and then pack the storehouse into one tiny crate.  Which can be carried by a single dwarf, and potentially place on the shelf of another storehouse.  Do you see where this is going?

The dwarves are aided (sort of) in their quest by this elf/fairy thing.  However, all the dwarves agree that she's just a lazy annoyance who would probably be more useful to them as dinner.

So, yeah...  Why has nobody done this?  I mean, does anyone here besides me even have this game?

Once tried to conquer Earth, and succeeded! Too bad it got really, really boring, really, really fast.

One day, we shall all look back on this, and laugh. Sorry about the face, by the way, and the legs, and the eyes, and the arms. In fact, sorry 'bout the whole body.

This game sounds like it is rated D for Dwarf. Make it so.

I'd love to, but I've got my obligation to the TFTD Let's Play as well (which is turning out to be a heck of a lot harder than I'd first imagined).  Unless someone can take that off my hands, I wouldn't feel right about trying to split my time between the two.

I've never played this game, but it sounds like a game I'd like to play. Anyone know where I could find a copy?
