==== NOTE ====
While this thread is all but alive. It has become too large to update the front page. Feel free to contribute and please be aware that several artifact effects and specific artifacts are not on the front page.
Total Artifact Count: 721Artifacts are currently uninteresting and bland. This won’t always be the case with both the v1 artifact arc and the v2 magic arc. This topic’s goal is to try to come up with as many interesting effects for artifacts as possible. I will try to occasionally update this thread from time to time.
For those who don’t know, this is a redo of an earlier topic I created. What happened is it became so large and scattered I could never tell what artifact types needed filling out or what artefacts were already done. I have also added to the current artifact list to the move here.

http://www.bay12games.com/forum/index.php?topic=5834.0This Topic isn’t just for my creative bantering. Post your own artifacts, effects, or mechanics. All contributions I have not made are highlighted green with the person’s name in ( and ). Also you will notice I split this topic up into MANY parts. Well that is because I hit the posting limit VERY FAST! I am currently converting some of the previous artifacts people have suggested in the old topic and it will be up eventually.
As always never judge an artifact by its name but by its effect.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Effects: Current Count 28-Seal of Friendship: If given to a Caravan it will greatly boost your relationship with that civilization. This will even go beyond what the race would normally allow.
-Weightless: The object is weightless or at least lighter then usual.
-Warm: The Object gives off heat giving warmth in cold climates, though somewhat risky if you’re going glacier.
-Menacing: These make attackers more fearful and easier to drive away.
-Paragon: As long as this item exists all items of the exact same type will always have a minimum quality level
-Of Happiness: Using the object brings great joy and counts as an additional positive memory
-Sentient: The Artifact in mind has the soul (or mind) of the being made to create it and thus has a limited influence over what happens to it
-Bleeding: The artifact will constantly bleed
-Vomit Inducing: Those who see the artifact will usually vomit
-Fruit Tree: The Object is a plant and produces unique fruit. Though if it is safe to eat is another story as the fruit can be poisonous or contain powerful curses.
-Sphere Absorbing: The Object absorbs the sphere around it and gains/loses powers accordingly.
-Chaotic: The artifact isn't stable. It is always changing by the phases of the moon.
-Seeker: The artifact cannot be stolen or given away, when the owner dies or the artifact is lost the object disappears until it finds a owner it deems as worthy. Though that could be easier said then done.
-Weaponised: The artifact has acceptable weapon attributes though it doesn’t mean it is any lighter.
-Morph/Return: The object can become a creature whos only motive is to return to its owner. If said creature dies then the artifact becomes dormant for a set time. This creature is usually the crafter's favorite animal but can also be themselves, their spouse, or an image of their god
-Insect Appeal: The object in question attracts insects, bugs, and spiders of the vermin variety even when there is no way for them to get at the artifact.
-Ghost Bound: Owners of the Artifact always become ghosts often of great power.
-Fetish: The artifact can always be linked to a ghost no matter their cause of death.
-Buried: Upon the death of the user the artifact disappears. It will always be found later in their coffin.
-Daemonic Communion: The holder of the artifact is always within contact with a demon. The demon can use this contact to influence the holder for better or worse.
-Organic: The artifact otherwise appears to be living, images move and wood appears barklike.
-Ascension: The Owner (or creator) will ascend to the heavens/godhood once a condition has been met (such as death)
-Simple: The artifact harnesses efficient and simple design that will appear ordinary to all those without the eye for detail.
-Degeneration: The artifact appears to degenerate over time but without any sort of penalty. Rotten artifact chairs are just as comfortable as the day they were made.
-Sweet Smell: The artifact emits sweet smells like flowers, cookies, or pine. This is more of a descriptor then an effect.
-Finder: Some artifacts can never truely be lost. If tossed into a Volcano, Bottomless pit, or bottom of the ocean it will without fail find another master.
-Lost: Some artifacts can never truely be kept. If the artifact loses its owner or becomes lost it travels to another location likely to never be seen again.
-Beacon: The artifact emits a pillar of light for everyone to see. This light in fact comes from the sky and radiates down onto the artifact in question.
Conditions: Current Count 3--Any effect that limits an artifact’s usefulness by putting conditions and costs on its use. These costs need to be disconnected from the user’s wellbeing or else they are detriments.
-Sacrifice: To work the artifact requires a ritual sacrifice
-Blood On/Off: The artifact requires to be covered in blood to function
-Night: The artifact can only be used under the shade of night
Detriments: Current Count 35--A Detrimental effect. They may be useful but only while the user resists its effect.
-Leak: The Artifact leaks Sphere energy of death, fire, and many other detrimental energies.
-Demon Linked: The artifact's existence keeps a demon or appropriate power from being slain entirely.
-No rest for the wicked: Owners who die holding this artifact are instead dirrectly sent to heck to be tortured forever by demons.
-Ghostly: The object is barely tangible and shifts in and out.
-Forbidden Knowledge: When the user finally comes to know the full extent of the artifact's power it leads them to death, insanity, or monsterism unless they can resist.
-Unfathomable: Any failed attempt to identify the use of this artifact wracks their brain causing insanity or at worst it causes their head to explode.
-Count Down: Upon the first use of the artifact the user has a limited time to live before they die from mysterious circumstances unless cured.
-Deathly Shrieks: The artifact gives off shrieks that plagues the mind of the user driving them further insane
-Death Bind: If possession of the artifact should pass from one person to another then the previous owner will instantly die.
-Countdown: Those who use the artifact have a period of time to life until they drop dead.
-Aging: The artifact causes the owner to age twice as fast
-Aging 2: The artifact causes the owner to age at a rate of one year everyday.
-Aging 3: For every use of the artifact the user ages a year
-Sickly: Those who hold the artifact can never recover from diseases or resist contracting them.
-Loyalty: This artifact pledges your loyalty to a powerful creature such as a megabeast, demon, or god. They are able to communicate to you and give you orders through the artifact. If they feel you havn't made strides to fulfil their wishes they can also impart punishment of pain and injury or if they have even less patience they could simply slay you.
-Infertility: Those who have owned this artifact are incapable of having kin except through adoption.
-Hideous: You slowly become hideous. People will avert their gazes and those with a weaker stomach may vomit. This is culturally dependent.
-Beacon of Justice: You become incapable of attacking anyone who isn't interested of attacking you. This unfortunately includes animals and trees.
-Wound: You gain a wound, usually a flesh wound, that will never heal.
-Freezing: No coat or suit can protect you from the elements.
-Hibernation: Every slumber becomes longer and longer until you arn't sleeping for hours but days, months, or even years.
-Eternal Slumber: Every time the wielder slumbers a counter ticks down. Eventually the holder will simply sleep forever unless cured. They will cease to age or require nourishment.
-Statue: Your flesh is slowly replaced with metal or stone slowing you down. When this transformation is complete you become a statue.
-Lifespan Devour: For every use of the artifact the user lives one year less
-Sacrifice: The artifact is inert unless a sacrifice is made to it in which case it remains active for a day.
-Forgotten: Everytime you use the artifact someone forgets about you.
-Sanity Devour: The Artifact eats bits of your sanity every use.
-Transformation: The artifact contains the template of a creature. Every use you start to become more and more like this creature eventually losing your mind. Should your mind be totally lost you effectively die.
-Leprosy: The artifact takes a body part with every use. It could start with your toes and fingers and eventually devour your arms and legs.
-Depending Dependent: The artifact has an Avatar that represents its personality and interests. The avatar can prevent you from using an artifact if you don't fulfil its needs, its death also prevents you from using the artifact. An example is a small girl who would demand you deliver onto it jewelry, gold, and food.
--It is entirely reasonable that this cost could in fact be a benefit. A powerful loyal Avatar could be a power in it of itself.
-Slumber: For every use your next slumber extends by a single day.
-Blood: Every use of the artifact drains blood directly from your body.
-Will Activated: The artifact takes a piece of the owners willpower to function.
-Isolated: In order to function the artifact erases one of the relationships of the individual every use. These relationships can be recovered but it would be as if you never met.
-Daemon Doppelganger (SirHoneyBadger): Everytime this artifact is used a demonic doppleganger in imitation of someone the wielder knows is created. These doppelgangers have their own agendas but will genuinely wish to keep up their deception usually resulting in the death of the original.
-Demanding (Droid): Just like a noble, this item can make mandates and demands. If they aren't followed its mood decreases. If they are satisfied its mood improves. If it goes crazy then it will become animated and either go on a rampage or try to destroy itself until it calms down, if it ever calms.
