I have a little thing called civilisation. You guys should try it sometime, we've hand central heating for ages now.
So do I, but a roaring fire is more fun, in the same way that a gigantic steak sandwich is more fun than a tiny blob of something suspicious and poncy.

I have central heating. It's hooked up to my fireplace, so I have the best of both worlds.

And wood is carbon neutral, so your filthy coal (or god forbid oil) based central heating just makes you a filthy planet killer.

It's a rare thing that something can be both manly and good for the environment.

Transport and logging costs means wood isn't really carbon neutral...

And does anyone have oil based central heating system?   I'm pretty sure mine is gas.

I suppose oil based heating would be pretty expensive...

My house has electric heating.  It sucked, because hurricane Ike totally made it all the way up here.  When it got to me all it was was this horrible hell-wind that knocked out power all over the state for a week.  It was insane.

Whoops, forgot to say why that sucked.  We didn't have hot water, so we couldn't take showers for like three days.  I spent the entire time rapidly running my hand through my hair trying to keep it from feeling gross.

In my case transport costs are negligible, because my town is surrounded by forest on all sides. As for logging, don't make me laugh. The amount of fuel it takes to cut enough wood to warm a house for the whole winter could warm that same house for about twenty minutes.

But yeah, it's not technically carbon neutral, but it's the closest thing available.  If we switch to wood grain alcohol for fuel, it'll be truly carbon neutral.

I don't want to kill the planet, but I do one day want to purchase and drive a huge old car. I admit, not now, because I don't have a license, but one day I'd like a huge shiny car with a giant engine.
And fins.

Aw man, why even cut down your trees? I don't know if it is just where I live, but we have tornadoes and heavy winds often enough that my tree-line, these great big ol' two story tall, 6 feet thick gumball trees, will just fall right over. The scary part is that they are all tall enough that if they fell towards me house, it'd hit exactly where my room is. Everyone else is on the other side of the house  >:(.

@Maggarg: Only way to make it more manly is if you mine all the metals yourself and smith it with your bear hands.

@Cthulu: I don't like the term pimp. I prefer the phrase 'owner of a large group of personal concubines'.

I've always wanted to have an energy grid powered a Metroid. Then, when people bother me about not being green, I'd be all like, "My power source will eat you alive. It's deadly efficient AND it's clean, bitch."

Fireplaces are indeed awesome, but make sure to tread lightly and carry a rifle at all times...
