Edit Adamantium name?
« on: November 14, 2009, 10:56:45 pm »

Greetings.
I'm a major LOTR fan, and I was wondering if it was possible (without causing a bug) to edit the raws to change every instance of the word "Adamantium" to "Mithril"?
Thanks in advance.

Yeah.  Just open up the raw/object files that have the adamantine stone and metal entries in them, and change the name (not the [MATGLOSS_STONE:x] tag) to whatever the heck you want.

Before anyone else says any different, you do NOT need to generate a new world for small edits to most raw entries - this has been thoroughly tested.  There are more details on when you need to generate a new world on a thread in the modding section should you ever need them.

Alternately: The Brick Testament. It's a really fun look at what the bible would look like if interpreted literally. With Legos.
Just so I remember

Will this also change item names, like an +Adamantum Short Sword+ will be changed to +Mithril Short Sword+?

Yes.  The word "adamantine" in "adamantine short sword" comes from the name of the material is made of.  Anything made from it will be described as adamantine.  This applies to the names of all materials.

It wouldn't be terribly hard because the word "adamantium" is not in the game.

Adamantium is fictional and adamantine exists IRL  ;D

I did this to change aluminum to aluminium across the entirety of all my games. I was sick of seeing aluminum items.

I agree with Urist. Steampunk is like Darth Vader winning Holland's Next Top Model. It would be awesome but not something I'd like in this game.
Unfortunately dying involves the amputation of the entire body from the dwarf.

'cos we Brits spell it aluminium... Seems like a good idea now that it's mentioned, part of me grates whenever someone says "aluminum" ;)

Does too.  You find very tiny quantities of native aluminum in igneous extrusive layer stone (apparently this *is* possible IRL; the aluminum has to have ended up somewhere without much oxygen to react with).

It is, however, worth quite a lot since it's so rare.  It's worth as much as platinum, in fact.

I created two aluminium chains to hold a spider and a target creature, but upon discovering that the masterful aluminium chain could buy me a cave bear, three spiders of varying species and a pet elf, I decided to sell it. :D

I think that Almumin(i)um used to be so rare that Louis Napoleon used to use it as silverware whereas all the unimportant guests only used gold.

The tip of the Washington Monument is made of a 100 oz piece of solid aluminum, the largest single piece of it cast at the time (in 1884, two years before the invention of the Hall-Héroult process). It was worth $100, which, adjusted for inflation, is $2,366.87 today.
