Plant Addition Gone Wrong, Help Needed
« on: November 14, 2009, 02:28:30 pm »

I was trying to mod in a plant to make things more interesting, but whenever I gen a world the extract value is one and the cheese (That is right, cheese) from the extract, which happens to be a milk, is not available for buying. the code is this:
[MATGLOSS_PLANT:MILKWEED]
        [TILE:5][COLOR:7:0:0]
        [NAME:milkweed bushes][NAME_PLURAL:milkweed bushes]
        [GROWDUR:1000][VALUE:20]
        [EXTRACT:weed milk:7:0:0]
   [EXTRACT_VALUE:100][EXTRACT_COOKABLE]
        [EXTRACT_BARREL]
   [EXTRACT_SIZE:5]
   [EXTRACT_CHEESE:weed cheese:7:0:0]
        [CHEESE_VALUE:200]
        [DRINK:dwarven  milkmead :5:0:0]
        [DRINKVALUE:4]
        [SEED:7:0:5]
        [SEEDNAME:milkroot]
        [GENPOWER:1]
        [SPRING][SUMMER][AUTUMN][WINTER]
        [FREQUENCY:100]
        [CLUSTERSIZE:5]
        [EDIBLE_VERMIN]
        [PREFSTRING:gray leaves]
        [WET][DRY][BIOME:SUBTERRANEAN_WATER]

the off center lines of code are not supposed to be off center, and are not when I copy the code into place from the plant matgloss
come on, I need advice

1) EXTRACTVALUE.
2) There's no EXTRACT_CHEESE for plants.
3) Where did you get EXTRACT_SIZE from?

So it should be:
[EXTRACT:weed milk:7:0:0]
[EXTRACTVALUE:100]
[EXTRACT_BARREL]
[EXTRACT_COOKABLE]

After an hour? Come on...
And Deon already said: No cheese from plants. And that's all*

*Or you can fiddle with Magical Smelter Reactions, that can do wonders, but I think even those won't help you get plant cheese.

The End.

The issue is that you can't use filled containers or the contents thereof in reactions - otherwise you'd be able to just get a barrel of the extract and swap it for a stack of cheese.

I think you're out of luck here, at least for the time being.

when It does work to use filled containers for reactions I will make Y barrel with X amount of weed milk in it = Y barrel+X amount of weed cheese

If you check your errorlog you will see that the CHEESE tokens aren't recognized in a plant file.  They are apparently for animals only at this time.

Would it work if he simply made a smelter reaction to turn milkweed into weed cheese?

Cheeses seem to be defined in terms of the animals from which they come.  Perhaps defining an animal known as "weed", with biomes set so they never spawn, would allow making weed cheese at the smelter from milkweed.  Before trying that, though, I would suggest testing a reaction to make cow cheese.  I know that making silk in the smelter freezes the furnace operator to death, apparently because it lacks a MATGLOSS entry and uses a BP of 0 Dwarfdegrees, so be sure to back up your fortress before trying to make cow cheese that way.   :)

But you get the silk, right?

Hehe, I think they want a WORKING silk :). To get a working silk, the creature which is a RACEGLOSS, not MATGLOSS, should have all the silk values described.

Actually Haspen is right, my answer has all you want to know. Sorry if it was too "dry" or short, I was sleepy and wasn't going to write long essays. Basically it's either milk or cheese.

If you want both, you could go with:
[MILL:weed cheese]
[MILL_VALUE:200]
[COOKABLE_WHEN_MILLED]

You will have to use a quern to get it, but at least it'd give you MILK as an extract and CHEESE as a mill.

These are the fiber one that I have tried in the smelter, and the results.  If someone has a working version, I'd be delighted.   :)

PRODUCT:100:3:CLOTH:SPIDER_CAVE:SILK:NO_MATGLOSS <= boils away and freezes the worker to death

PRODUCT:100:3:CLOTH:REED_ROPE:PLANT:NO_MATGLOSS <= makes a "plant fiber cloth" but not rope reed

PRODUCT:100:1:THREAD:NO_SUBTYPE:PLANT:PIG_TAIL <= makes a "plant fiber thread" but not pig tail
