Ingtakmestthos - An Interactive Ascii-Draw Adventure
« on: November 13, 2009, 06:42:10 pm »

Ingtakmestthos (Twilight Citadel)

Welcome to Searching the Depths: Ingtakmestthos, this will be an interactive story, with the main characters controlled by the players, this is the first story of this type I have done though it won’t be the only one if it goes well, some info first and then the backstory.

The story will be done through a combination of text and ascii draw, any tips or comments that are helpful about this are welcome.

Mechanics work on a combination of common sense, karma and dice, dice system is simple, the higher you score the more chance you have of succeeding, not all events warrant a dice.

Here is the sign up sheet, there are six places available for adventurers, and another six for recurring villains, adventurers are there all the time, while those who control villains will discuss their next attempts/be warned when their next appearance is coming up OVER PM, if someone with a villain states theirs plans in the thread and clues the adventurers in then that’s their own fault.

Also NO MAGIC, magic is only for story uses, no player characters can use it.

Name:
Species: (Dwarf, Human, elf, goblin, kobold)
Age:
Gender:
Personality:
Backstory:
Equipment: (Not gonna put specific limits on this but be reasonable, all masterwork steel armor is a no-no and the world at large hasn’t had any amount of adamantium bigger than a small pebble for nearly a thousand years, however a powerful sword offset by crappy armor would be ok.)

When signing up for an adventurer please give an indication of your reasons for joining the party, villians please send me your immediate plans after departure via PM.

Backstory:

The Planes of Destiny and Grandeur they call it, well actually that’s what the noble classes call it, so pretty much everyone else has decided to spite them and uses the original true name, The Realms of Fish, yeah, that’s why people shouldn’t let perpetually drunk midgets name planets, but no matter what you call it, the Realms are home to some very diverse and unique creatures, with a history full of tales, each one a small thread in the vast tapestry that makes up the history of this world.

This is one of those tales.

====

Historians tell of days long in the past, days of darkness and grandeur, when the famous mountain halls of the dwarves were still but small holes in the rock, teeming with life, when the goblin clans still ravaged there way across the continents and the elves still clung to the empty hope that their trees could still be saved. These times continued for many years, and as the fighting escalated whispers began, about a final battle that would end everything, turning the entire world into one big blood-soaked battlefield.

They were wrong, the Age of Myths did not end with a gigantic final battle, it just ended. One day the elder races were living and fighting as normal, and the next they were all gone, with only a few survivors remaining, confused and alone they banded together, ignoring the old battles and grudges for the necessity of survival.

As the new settlements stabilised they began to search, trying to find out what happened to their forebears, but it was futile and in the end, thye never found out. Still time went on, and settlements became towns, towns became cities and slowly the world recovered, a different world to be sure, but a world all the same.

Nowadays the majority of the populations reside in crowded megacities, large circular cities where the nobles live in large dwarf built towers in the center, and the ajority are left to life in the slums in the outer reaches of the city, our story starts in one of these cities, Stakas-Muthul

====

You stand nervously in the waiting room, all to aware of the small amount of places available and the large amount of hopefuls, all hoping to prove their worth for the expedition, you found the leaflet by chance, maybe you woke up in the gutter after your latest night out, and found it on the ground nearby, or maybe you found it on one of the new lampposts, so prone to exploding that many stopped in wonder at the daring of someone willing to touch the things just to put up posters.

Either way you are now in this room listening to an old dwarf outline his plans to raid an old dwarf fortress, The Twlight Citadel, known in the old tongue as  Ingtakmestthos, an old, great treasures are said to be held in these old halls, yet like most of the fortresses, all but a few now abandoned to the elements, there is likely to be great danger.

As the meeting progresses many leave in disgust, it is clear the old dwarf is mad, babbling on about how his love was left behind in the original migration when the fortress was abandoned, and how he wants to go back and rescue her, one by one the hopefuls leave, until by the end only six including yourself remain, maybe you have a kindly heart, and do not wish to let an old man meet his death alone in the cold depths, or maybe you have seen the facts, the old man has supplies, armor, weapons and most importantly, maps, though the intention is insane, this is a well funded expedition, with plenty of chance to pick up some loot along the way.

Whatever your reasons to agree to help, and add your signatures to the exploration permits before retiring for a last night in the taverns, because tomorrow you set off, to death and glory, to riches and wonders.

To Ingtakmestthos.

Ok just to repeat myself once more, I need six adventurers and six villains for this, the adventurers are needed to start, while the villains can be added later, if we get at least three people and a long wait has been had then we will start early and I will try to add in others later as they come.

Name: Olith Isdiomli
Species: Human
Age: 34
Gender: Male
Personality:
He is always tense and jittery. He almost never feels discouraged. He doesn't often experience strong cravings or urges. He is impervious to the effects of stress. He is a risk-taker and a thrill-seeker. He tends not to openly express emotions. He revels in chaos and disorder. He is entranced by riddles and puzzles and loves to debate issues and ideas. He never feels discouraged. He would rather intimidate others than compromise with them. He is modest. He is organized. He is absolutely unfazed by the opinions of others. He possesses great willpower. He believes that some deception is necessary in relationships with others. He does not actively seek friendships and is incredibly distant and reserved. He sees others as selfish and conniving. He would never let an objective judgement be tempered by mercy or pity. He is incredibly confident. He thinks through every alternatives and their consequences before acting
Backstory: Born in a border town of the Empire in a family of City Guard and a Blacksmith, He grew up in slums, walking a slippery path of shadow with his street-friends. Being caught for a minor thievery, He became an enemy of his own family, shunned openly for it. He managed to escape the punishment, but is now hunted openly by his own family, who are disgusted by his lawless behaviour. He now walks the World, looking for an opportunity to avenge himself.

Both of  Olith parents died after he reached maturity. Olith  disliked his parents. Olith is the youngest child of a large family  who act openly hostile to him.  His the family is admired by the community.
Olith has experienced the oppression of a tyrannical military or theocratic state first hand.
At age of 22, a close friend of Olith  was arrested for a crime he or she did not commit. Despite evidence of his or her innocence presented by the character, the friend was convicted and executed. This bitter lesson about power and its abuse has stuck with the character. As a result, he has no liking for rules or leaders.
A carefully thought out plan made by Olith and his now-dead friend fell apart through unforeseen, chance happenings or by subterfuge on the part of the ally. The results were nearly disastrous and taught Olith that even most trusted friend can fail him utterly.

Alrighty adding you two to the list,oh and vagel, something I forgot to add, if ya could give an indication of why Drago is joining up (from the profile i guess for the thrill of it but i can't be sure) then that would be helpful, sorry about forgetting to ask for that,

Pillow_Killer similar thing please, your characters immediate (if possible) plans, though over Pm so the adventurers can't actively propare for it.

Name: Onoxlug Klabaquo
Species: Goblin
Age: 64
Gender: Male
Personality: Onoxlug is a cunning goblin with a good street sense and knows a lot about traps. He seems nice at first but soon it's obvious he's a conman and a turncoat. He would leave the group behind for thousands of gold coins. He's greedy, envious and sneaky, but even though he is an evil character, he is extremely dexteritous and works wonders with traps.

Backstory: Onoxlug was born in a dark tower, but was prompty babysnatched by kobolds. It was a revenge act because of the goblins that would constantly steal kobold babies to farm for meat. The kobolds decided they would train him with the bow and knives, so he could become a great war captain that could destroy the babysnatchers once and for all! When he turned 20, he was already clad in ragtag copper armor mixed with leather, adorned with hanging bone rings and leather spikes, with engravings embedded in the leather of slavery. He led many assaults against his once home and managed to babysnatch along with his new kobold brethern more goblins to fight with. One day the goblins fought back and massacred the entire cave with their new trolls. Onoxlug fled into the townships looking for any place he could find a home..and he found it. He would take this mountainhome and rule it! He would bring his kobold brethern and lead them to war! Conquering all with golden armor and slaves bowing at his feet!

Equipment: Poor Copper ragtag mail with exceptional leather armor adorned with hanging bone rings and leather spikes. Engraved on the armor are goblins and kobolds. The goblins are laboring. The kobolds are laughing. One copper longbow with a very large quiver near his thighs. The quiver holds 30 bone arrows. He also dualwields two large copper daggers.

For the thrill and a few souvenirs that he likes to collect from places around the world.

Also he is an excellent swordsman and his age doesn't stop him in anything

Adventurer

Askot Bokbondeler is a half dwarf half human mule, he's 34.He is tall and stout, with a respectable black beard. Askot worked as an henchman and as a caravan guard, as he failed his duties in his last two missions he was expeled from his guild and was forced to join the expedition before he ran out of coin. Despite his resumé he is a competent fighter with some experience in swordfighting. He is an inteligent, practical man, needs alcohol to get through the working day, is a proficient swordsman, a skilled shield user, and a competent cook. He is a nice humble guy, not too greedy but not too scrupulous either.
Beware of inherited tendency for tantruming.

He carries a x-woden shield-x
, an xx-iron bearded ax-xx
, a *«≡dwarven short sword≡»* (broad long dagger) made of dwarven bronze(better but heavier than iron) studded with a silver image of dwarves labouring that relate to the foundation of a forgotten mountainhome
, a wooden hunting crossbow, though he only has a couple of iron bolts.

He is equiped with an -iron chainmail shirt-
covered with a xx -cow leather cuirass xx
and an old xX +brass winged helmet+ Xx, that was probably intended for ceremonial use only.
He wears a xX≡bear fur cloak≡Xx half a century old, that he inherited from his father, and thus is too short for him

He has at his belt a pouch of silver coins that he got from selling his lame horse to the butcher
In his backpack he has
a cheap rum bottle
a large boar tusk inscribed with dwarven runes for good luck and sexual prowess
a rope, the lenght of two tall men
a waterskin (empty right now, its to much of a hassle to carry it full when there are wells nearby)

Adventurer please.

Real Name: Jonathan
Common Name: Spartan 117
Species: Hyu-mahn, no, huge-gland, er, hunam! Wait...human!
Age: 36
Gender: Male
Personality: Serious, rough, desensitized and tactical, he has all the markings of a warrior who's seen too much. He also has a hatred of religion.
Backstory: Trained to be a personal bodyguard for an important noble of a small kingdom, he was reassigned with creating an elite force of warriors to help protect his kingdom from the zealots invading from the south. His experiences dehumanized him, and the very people he saved began to fear him. After the war, his group was disbanded and he was released from service. Given a sum of gold and a pat on the back for his efforts, he was shunned by the kingdom he had been trained to guard. Bitter, he looked at his former rulers in distaste, seeing them as weak and spineless. Only stopping to purchase armor, a sword, and supplies, he left the kingdom intending to forge his own. From that day on, he took on the monicker of Spartan 117, his designation from the war. Few know of his real name, and he prefers it that way.
Equipment: Give him some modifier-less armor, preferable iron chain or plate, and an iron sword. Give him some good combat skills too, please.

If you didn't guess from the background, his goal is to form his own kingdom, one way or another.

And probably with a minor "ends justify the means" attitude. Not like, mass murder or anything, just more small scale. He's kind of like an Anti-Hero, I suppose.

Name: Flint II
Species: Dwarf
Age: 45
Gender: Male
Personality: Intelligent, extravagant, polite. Really wants to succeed at what he does. Is a villain in training and prefers if possible not to get his hands too dirty.
Back-story: "Your either born a villain or not born a villain son that's just how it goes." Those were the words of Flint's father and those words stuck by him through his entire life so far. Early on it was not as easy as he thought living in his father's shadow, Flint I was a name that once caused trembles across the land and he even owned a dragon Flint II however had to try and commit evil acts on the other dwarves with his collection of toads and blue-jays. Feeling he had no choice other than to cause terror across the land Flint II left the fortress at a young age and quickly set about harassing beggars and hurling abuse at the unfortunate man who's duty it was to clean after the horses but still it wasn't enough. So Flint read of all famous masterminds, bandits and dictators and after years of practice set out once more to try and earn a dishonest living as a villain.
Equipment: Some ordinary dark clothes with a traditional villainous hooded dark cloak, an iron crossbow a full quiver of iron bolts, an iron battleaxe (mostly for show..) and Ozak's Big Book of Villanous Deeds and Phrases.
