stuff
I really don't understand the American fear of anything that can be tangentially associated with communism. Sure a complete centralized system doesn't work too well just like a system with no central planning but its not some kind of satanic verse that if you so much as acknowledge will rot your soul and damn you to hell for all eternity.

Socialism gives the benefits of capitalism but reduces the bad stuff. I love socialism.

Maybe you should pay a visit to Sweden then.  Horribly inefficient, bloated public sector and the world's second highest tax, yet no better than many far less taxed countries.  We used to have fantastic growth and development, but as socialism took root from the 50s to the 70s, everything slowed down to a crawl.  The only thing keeping us afloat is our world class private sector.

So too much socialism is definitely not a nice thing.

It's not really a "this is good, that is bad" thing with politics. If it were that easy, we wouldn't have all this stuff with ideologies. Socialism is generally a neat balance.

Capitalism messes up horribly in things where money can't help - it takes money to make money, and people who don't have money are messed up by capitalism. Communism messes up because you fail to reward people properly. It also appeals to natural forces (contentment of the masses) just as capitalism appeals to a natural force (greed). Both, when firmly rooted into an economy, are hard to change.

Socialism rewards hardworking people, takes money from those who have the means to support others, and give it to the needy so that they can work hard, get more money, and become taxable. It's nice in that it allows people to get ahead in life by working hard, and nice that it gives everyone a chance. It gives everyone equal opportunity if done right.

Socialism can fail utterly when you misdefine who has the means and how much others need. Take too much from the rich and you make it difficult for them to become richer, hence your case with Sweden. Moderate taxes work.

Was the person wearing it a 13 year old with Che Guevara badges on and an emo-fringe?
Why am I asking this, of course they were.

Even better. It was actually a 13 year old with greasy, unkempt hair and a rolling backpack.
He wears a grand total of 2 shirts, and I'm pretty sure his other shirt is a Runescape shirt or something.

You know something I noticed the other day? It's not RuneScape, it's RunEscape. As in, "Run, escape the rude perverted adolescent boys!"
Two of the three varieties of Communist in most of the west.
The other has a beard, wears tie-die tunics and sandals and lives in a tent in a commune in a valley in Wales.

That's not socialism. I don't know what that is, but it's definitely not socialism. Socialism is about government ownership of property and ending income disparity....all you're advocating for is ending poverty through a welfare system to help people out. I think I would call that system basically Welfare Liberalism.

Usualy, full state controll of all means of production's called communism and socialism is reserved for a system as described by Muz. They used to be the same some hundered years ago (and in some hardliner liberal circles it might still be), but the definition of socialism shifted away towards a welfare state with a free market but without the normal nightwatcher gouvernment associated with hard capitalism.
