How fast do corpses rot?
« on: November 11, 2009, 05:26:08 pm »

I noticed that in my swamp fortress any bodies that were left outside tended to rot very quickly, while in my brother's desert fortress on his much faster computer they rotted slowly.
Is this a common phenomena?

Water quickens rot, wear and tear.

I also have a feeling that 'water covering' on clothes can cause them to wear out faster. So it might be best to keep your dwarves dry.

That won't be easy... It's been raining here since I embarked. I kid you not, I haven't seen the "the weather has cleared" message since my last fort.

I can say that temperature has nothing to do with it. I actually considered putting up a suggestion about this, bodies rot on glaciers no slower than they do in less hostile environments. I also think they rot a little slower inside, so they can give off all that lovely purple miasma.
