So, an idea.

Using Rome: Total War, the mod RTR:PE (for BI), it'll be a campaign where a person would take over a general (or captain). I'll generally play the campaign and request/command the generals, however each turn I'll assign funds from towns owned by the general for them to recruit troops with (they'll tell me what troops to choose), when the generals get attacked or attack an enemy, the game will be saved and the save will be sent to the player to fight out the battle how they wish. The save will be sent back to me and then go from there. When the faction leader dies (who will start out to be me), the person who is the faction heir will then command the campaign from there. Anyone interested? Additions? Questions?

Depends on whether I can be bothered to uninstall Europa Barbarorum and install RTR. The alternative being to have both of them which would mean pretty much wiping my whole tiny hard drive to make space.

Also if we do this can I forfeit control if my general becomes the leader? As the game goes on I end up taking like a week to do one turn and I doubt you'd all want to be waiting that long.

EDIT:

In fact this would be almost perfect for me. I love the battles but hate doing all the other campaign stuff, however without that other stuff just setting up a battle is boring, I need to know something is at risk and I like being in a position of power/weakness for a reason rather than just I chose to be.

I feel like doing a hideously complicated LP/succession for Rome, where the save changes hands when the faction leader dies, and generals are named after people who want them.

I don't care though, I never would have got around to it.

Greeks or Britons. I like the Romans too, but they kinda have a massive, and cheap, advantage.

I'm not sure if I'll be able to do the battles, have to find my game...  Even if I did, probably wouldn't do too many pictures.  2-3 at most.

Would be hilarious to see my general gain some crazy personality... or end up becoming a traitor.

Also, in cases of where more then 1 player general ends up fighting the same battle... how will that be done?

I second this, not just because I already have it installed but because the trait system is just so damn advanced which will be perfect for this. Also I want to be able to field a completely naked army.  Naked spearmen FTW!

I vote for Sweboz, Good variety of troops IIRC.

That or Cart-hadast so its proper for people to fill their armies with Merc troops of their choosing.

I think I can join in but not quite sure if I have the exact version as everyone else.
