Dwarf Fortress:
Ignoring Occam's Razor since 1050.
Dwarves would only be interested in Occam's Razor if there was a way to use it as a trap component.
And probably not even then. One should not multiply entities needlessly, after all, be they unknown terms or bits of gobbo.
No no no, it is for dividing them into bits of gobbo, not to make gobbos reproduce, that'd be indeed needless.

But multiplying the number of dismembered goblin components is needed.

I don't know what Occam's Razor is but you guys make it sound awesome.

Are guillotines trap components? I can't recall.

And on that matter, is it possible to slice enemies in half vertically?

Occam's Razor basically states that the simplest explanation is probably the right one. So it's pretty much the opposite of awesome.

By guillotine do you mean serrated disc?

And no.

The Instant Fatal combat message for the Head with Slash type damage is "It is split in half from the crown to the chin!", so yes, but only the head it seems.

So if you used a weapon trap with a giant axe blade or large serrated disc, which are both slash damage and if they happen to hit the head with an instant fatal, you could get that message.

I think the giant axe blade is probably the closest thing to a guillotine.

Simple can be awesome.

You must move from Point A to Point B in the most simple path: a straight line.

This means you'll have to crash through four buildings, thirteen cars, and a civil riot. Preferably in a bulldozer.

Now that's simple.

Guess serrated disc is close enough. Oh, well.

Someday, we will have dozens of "goblin left halves" and "goblin right halves." You just watch.

You're forgetting that stabbing is ALWAYS the simplest solution in interpersonal conflicts.
Especially in the face.

Yeah, but maybe I'm jaded. Face stabbings aren't awesome, just necessary.

The silence that comes afterwards? Now that's awesome.

Personally, I think face-stabbing ends too quickly.
It's more fun to stab them in the throat.

but that would be a waste of my drowning trap

It's like Crayon Physics.  There are lots of solutions.  Simple ones like walls and Elegant ones like automated traps.

Then there are the awesome solutions.  Why just win, when you can win?

What would you do if seven small, beared men marched into your home and started to dig out a city in your basement?

Well said.

I vote for you start to drown them, then activate numerous spikes on the floor.
After that, drop a layer of magma on them.

YES. Drown them, stab them, and then boil them. And they can't get out through the obsidian. I like this plan.
