Water in reactions
« on: November 09, 2009, 11:32:59 pm »

Has anyone been able to get a smelter reaction that uses water, in any way? I understand that extracts don't work because they get spilled. is there any hack or workaround for getting a bucket of water into a reaction? Would making the reaction require a drink with type water work?

For now it's impossible (and I think Toady told it that in the next version it's still impossible).

perhaps it would be possible to mod pits to fill with magma opposed to water?

perhaps you could figure out a way for buckets to be brought to a craftdwarves shop full of water, along with a bag of sand.

Only in dwarven culture is alcohol poisoning a death worthed investigating, while being impaled through several toes, a eye, and a thumb from a spiraling water[3] is not.  Because everyone knows, the only way a dwarf could get alcohol poisoning is if someone put poison into the alcohol.

It is not currently possible to use items in containers in reactions.

Move along.

You could make a reaction which uses a boulder of ice as reagent, couldn't you? But you still can't have sand as a reagent, and of course this would only work on freezable maps.

its also quite possible to use "stagnant water" probably, which is just water your dwarves leave out in buckets, then seems to get dumped out somehow. (I wasnt watching)
but it would seem odd to carry a puddle, so ice would be a much better choice, although it would all turn out to be a very complex system.
