Spoilered for similar reasons as Lord D.
[despoilered]To be fair, the proto-Bush Administration also blamed Clinton for not seeing 9/11 coming.
So far as I know, people are just blaming Bush for not fixing it magically, [sarcasm] because Presidents can do that, being demigods and all. [/sarcasm][/despoilered]
Of course, his successor is also being blamed for not using his demigod powers already. Amazing.
Plus ça change, plus c'est la même chose.
(Locally to me, Gordon gets blamed for not sorting Tony's mess. Tony got blamed for not sorting the Tory stuff out (or perhaps embracing it, that was the trouble with 'New' Labour attracting the middle-ground, or even jumping straight over the middle and trying to sit in the Tory heartlands). Maggie didn't get blamed so much for that sort of thing, because by the end of her time in office, most of the mess was most definitely her fault. (Skipping Major, because his personality*timeinoffice equation comes out much less significant than the adjacent office-holders.) And like Maggie got the Falklands to sustain her early on, Tony got some of the Former Yugolslavian Republics thing under his belt as a (relative) success, at least until he got visions of godhood and thought that would translate to the later conflicts (some would say).
If Gordon manages to survive the next General Election, perhaps by a random upturn or Falkland-esque distraction happening to coincide with the runup, then we'll get to see how he does. But if things don't improve and thus Dave gets in, everyone will be expecting
him to wield the wand of healing. Which he doesn't have. And I was going to mention the LibDem guy, but his name evades me. Or, rather, the names Vince (Cable) and Boris (Johnson) swamp it out, for obscure reasons it's probably best not to go into. Hang on. Nick (Clegg). Anyway. Vote OMRLP!)
