Any game might not be balanced, but Bastard Mod games are particularly prone to this; because the mod is (more often than not) making shit up on the spot.

If I may chime in.

The trick to a Bastard Mod is...well..  I hate myself for this but I have to use Saw for an analogy. 

Bastard Mods are traps.  If the town goes to a bastard mod with a Traditional mindset (as in, they play one like they play a normal game) they are meant to lose.  If the town, however, can figure out the trap then they can pull themselves out and win.

A game with a Jester that end the game is an example.  Traditionally, a town will lynch someone who looks scummy no matter what.  However, a town that realizes that the Jester seems TOO willing to die may pull back and use a Role Cop instead, discovering the Jester and avoiding the loss.


So when making a Bastard Mod, you have to ask: what does the town need to discover in order to win?  Once you know, ask "How can the town figure it out without blind guessing?"  Once both questions are settled, the game will work well.

They aren't made to be Balanced.. they are made to be puzzled out.
