I used to like Power Metal, but it's kind of embarrassing.  I feel like I should be wearing a ponytail when I listen to it.

Another guilty pleasure is Bal-Sagoth.

How can a band go from this to this?

They're still good, and their newest album is a lot darker, but for a while there they were pure sugar.

So my brass band is actually practising a Led Zeppelin medley. It starts with Rock and Roll, then segues into Immigrant Song, Black Dog, Kashmir and finishes with Stairway to Heaven. That last part is actually the one we fail the most at. Or rather, half the band fails at. Basically, the ones that have heard the songs or are really good can play this stuff without any major problems, and then the other guys drag them down and it becomes a barely-recognizable mess. Which is lousy :-\

Ehh, I dunno, I think there's a law against that. I don't wanna get hammered.

Plus I play the tuba. I have to keep the beat, and that beat isn't the beat of beating people to death.

Daaamn.
First song gave me a more grimdark fantasy image. The second is overblown epic IMO.

Sometimes power metal bands seem to forget what a minor key is, yeah.

In unrelated news, I like this.

I absolutely adore folk-metal, especially viking and norse. Has anyone ever been to paganfest or anything similar? Care to share your experiences?

While my main favourite has to be viking/norse metal, my taste in music is very eclectic, going from Amon Amarth to Black Sabbath to Tenacious D to The Decemberists and more. Most of the time though, it's metal. My current playlist is Black Sabbath, Led Zeppelin, Heidevolk, Metsatoll, Tyr, Korpiklaani and Turisas. It menaces with spikes of METAL.

I didn't like the second one either, it just seemed over the top and uninteresting.

Ignore the video, it's for an entirely different song.

Rise Up and Fight. Tell me this isn't a love letter to Pink Floyd.

That's not a love letter to Pink Floyd, that is Pink Floyd.  Specifically, One Of These Days.  It sounds a bit like if Muse were meddling with Meddle.

You probably already know this, I just felt inclined to point it out for posterity's sake.  Which is to say, I'm blowin' it out my ass.

For some reason I thought that I'd already posted here...

Anyway, sludge and drone metal.

Meh, might as well post something.
Foreground Eclipse and Demetori.
Both of them are Touhou arrange groups that I've been listening to quite a bit lately.
