That's his problem, not mine.

The fact of the matter is that knowing any form of coding language makes no difference when you don't know what it is Toady's done.
He could have referenced every variable in the entire game in the milking function.
As outrageous as that is, we just don't know what it is he's done with his code.

Brenoink, Toady are gathering all the save-compatibility-breaking updates into one huge update, so the game updates won't break compatibility between saves for a long time.

That endeavor is a tad big, and he have, as someone already said, acknowledged that he is juggling far too many balls right now.

HOWEVER, try and look in the dev_now over a few days and you'll realize just how big this update will actually be... Compared to the current version 1 year of development is completely fair, and when it's released (Soon, if you look at the FotF thread countdown) the updates will come at a much faster pace.

For the third (fourth?) time: If implementing milking IS, somehow, a monumental task, that is an issue in and of itself. With any sane design it should be no problem at all.

Brenoink's argument concerning milking, I think, is that milking exists in the game but is only applicable to purring maggots.  If the game was all like, object oriented and stuff, it would be pretty simple to add the [milkable] tag or whatever to a cow or a dinosaur and it'd work like that.  He's pointing out a marked exasperation with a lot of the placeholder systems in general.

Anyways, I just read through the whole thread. Lots of hilarity all around, though I swear brenoink's calm and rational way of arguing is the very thing that's irritating people.

Not much to say that I haven't before, other than a "bounty" system would actually be very, very interesting. It doesn't have to be all or nothing, either. Toady could still have general donations in addition to a bounty system.

Sure, milking probably wouldn't take more than maybe 2 - 3 hours, but is it really important to the game right now?
Sure, you got 2 professions that are useless, but those can be changed so it's not game breaking.
I for one, thinks actively working on the Arcs are more important than fixing trivial issues.

If you look in the future section where you can see the COREs and POWER GOALs etc., you'll see just how far the current DF are from the final project as Toady imagines it.

The ground stones are not even near set up.
