Well brenoink, since you seem to be inside my head, I guess there's no real reason for me to say anything here. But I will anyway.
First, I didn't start my little donation thread because I thought it would somehow speed up Toady's work. He's said repeatedly that he's trying to wrap up a playable edition by the end of December, early January at the latest. And even if he didn't, or I didn't believe that, I wouldn't particularly care because it's not like my life revolves around Dwarf Fortress. It can be ready to play whenever, and I'll play it then.
Second, I also didn't donate money because I like long development waits, not did I think that would convince Toady such long waits are cool, because I've watched him reply long enough to know he's not a jackass. He's said repeatedly that he's disappointed with himself for not having released a update in this long, and that he'll never bite off so much work at once again. I'm willing to believe that, but I don't particularly care about that either for the same reasons.
Third, it's not like he's some garrymodder who only updates his site to make excuses about why he hasn't been updating. He stays in contact, with observable work, clearly actually doing stuff that will, soon enough, be a playable game. He's not pulling anything out of his ass, and he's one guy making whatever game he feels like making.
Fourth, unlike you apparently, I don't feel entitled to tell Toady what to do because I gave him some pocket change. I could keep playing his game regardless of whether I pay any money or not, so he's under no obligation to listen to anybody. Are there things I'd rather see him working on? Of course. Hell, I myself managed to delay the release by
two hours to get descriptions on statues. But it's not like he's completely oblivious people's suggestions, and once again has promised to take that into account more from now on. You don't believe that, fine, but I'm willing to give him the benefit of the doubt.
So why did I start a thread saying "hey, the release is taking way too damn long, I'm gonna give money anyway and who's with me?" you ask? Because I felt like it. It was plain old spurious generosity because I had the cash to spare, and it amazes me that anyone else so much as replied.
tl;dr - Toady's cooler than you'll ever be, you self-important grubber, because he's programming a huge-ass game and you're not. As I can guess your motives as easily as you mine, I'm going to assume that all you really wanted was to cause a scene. You succeeded. Congratulations and go to Hell.
