Clearing out Floors
« on: November 07, 2009, 05:47:54 pm »

I have a big cast for an obsidian tower, but I need to get rid of all the floors on all the excavated levels. I'd rather not have to spend two hours carefully managing channeling designations so as not to kill all my miners, so can I just build a big block of walls above it on a support and destroy the support?

You could just not manage channeling designations on the topmost floor :P

(But yeah, I think dropping walls will work too)

Build supports between each floor and channel out the edges.
Finish it off by pulling a lever to collapse the bottommost support.
That's how I clear out lots of floors at once.

That's how I used to do it. Now I usually just do this:

Step 1: Designate ramps in the area you are clearing
Step 2: Remove ramps

Repeat.

It works pretty well.

Yeah, mass designating ramps instead of channels or mining+collapsing works best since a ramp clears the z-level and the floor above it too.
