Dorfs wont haul.

Anyone here notice with the new version the dwarves aren't putting their dead things in the garbage dump? I'm having a miasma meltdown in the butchery cause they don't drop shit off in the garbage zone. Sometimes the dont haul furniture/bars etc either. I've checked the orders screen, checked forbidden, pathing and everything. I cant figure it out.

Is this garbage dump a refuse pile, or an actual zone designated as a garbage dump?

an 'i' garbage dump means they'll throw things you SPECIFICALLY MARK as 'dumping' there.

A 'p' garbage pile is the one you're looking for.

Ah i now realise what im doing wrong. The problems have only started to occure when i started using the hide function to tidy up my fortress. My stockpiles were full, but the stone using up the tiles were hidden so it looked like they were half empty.

Yeah, it'd be helpful if stockpiles showed the number of usable squares like activity zones did (e.g. "Food stockpile: 17/48 open").

Urrrg, no, same problem except now they wont haul refuse. Miasma up in this bitch fort.

Do you have an active garbage dump zone that your dorfs can reach? If yes, you should have a look at the refuse options ( o->r ). Maybe you turned "Dwarves gather refuse" off by accident.
Also garbage hauling is no high priority task, meaning other jobs get done first. Do you have enough refuse haulers who have nothing else to do?

A good solution against miasma is usually having a giant refuse stockpile (not dumpzone) in a separate room - with double doors as an airlock, if you're really scared of miasma. Remains from butchering, goblin corpses, dead vermin etc. will be put there to rot. When that stockpile fills up to quickly, you should have a second big refuse pile, only accepting bones, shells and skulls and configured to take from the first pile.
The first pile is there to let everything rot away without miasma spreading too far and the second one for sorting out the useful stuff that doesn't stink up your fortress.
