Dwarf: the hammering revive! rpgmaker xp style!
« on: November 07, 2009, 02:31:20 pm »

Kay folks! Today I'm starting to make a rpgmaker xp game that would use Taritus'es Dwarf: the hammering as gameplay mechanic. It will feature a campaing and a limited play (draft)

Any thoughts? Feedback? Rpgmaker is bad and I should jump off a bridge?
I still don't know if I'll get any feedback and obviously no feedback= no game.

I thought about making a game using roman emperors (Inaluct's idea that I made rules for), but I thought "meh!"

If I'll get some feedback I will need you, yes you! To give me ideas, suggestions, and card ideas as last time D:tH died a premature death, and I would like to carry it on.
I'll post first screenshots tommorow.

Oh and if you wish to be on the credits page then post about it here.

Rpgmaker is bad and you should jump off a bridge.

Ignore the elitism. If RPGMaker does what you need it to do and you're comfortable using it, then go right ahead and use it.

That said, I haven't touched RPGMaker since it was the '95 version, so good luck with it.

I'd have nothing against it if it was portable.  That aside
This sounds like a fun game, I'm looking forward to watching other people play it.

So long as you end up using your own graphics instead of the anime style ones that come with XP, and you're comfortable with RPGMaker, then by all means, go ahead.  If I were you, I'd use the graphics that come with it as placeholder graphics, but change them when you get the chance, it'll keep the game from looking like another amateur RPGMaker game...

The engine is a lot more powerful than some people realize, especially with the Ruby scripting in XP and VX, so if it fits your needs go right ahead, there's no point in reinventing the wheel.

Urist McHardcaste is laughing at the Goblins. The carving related to the prolonged and bloody death of Urist McHardcastle in the Fall of 1659, the Winter of 1659, and the Spring of 1660. On the engraving is an image of Cheese.

Actually I'll mostly use what graphics suite me on the internet and I'll pixelart the rest.
There's a whole rpgmaker community where showing rtp graphics is in bad taste, and yes some stuff I've seen done with it blew my mind.

I'm more comfortable doing a game with tools I know than learning C++ which I tried, but it would take a year or so to get to some skills.

Everyone: Should I do a big Bay 12 logo that advertises donations and use sounds "beyond quality *pig sound*" before the main title???

I've seen a few (very, very few) really good RPGmaker games.  If it has the framework that you need, I don't see any reason not to use it.  It's when people turn it into snake games and FPSs that I start to question their sanity.

I wouldn't use the Bay12 stuff, as it makes it look like you have a sponsorship.  I don't think Toady would object to a mention and credit for any ideas you "borrow."

I really like your grass, water, and smooth stone blocks.  The cracked rock and the dark stone in that new image are both visually busy, and the high contrast makes them look out of place.  I would be afraid of losing my character on that dark rock.

Prepare for a heavily scripted, most-likely-to-be-abandoned RPG!

However I wish you the best of luck on your future endeavors. My prediction shalt not falter thou.

eerr: You're pretty much right, Dwarf: the hammering is a DF related card game.
But there will be hammerings!!!!!

zzzdude: Nah, this project is made so that I would overcome my procrastrination. I hope I won't be an asshole and abandon it

Will there be mostly hammerings, or will you indulge other weapons?

Other creatures?

Forts build around forts?

The trick is to work on the project when you are procrastinating something else.
