Uummm, WTF?
« on: November 07, 2009, 01:57:39 pm »

I have just realized, on my 4th fort over 3 worlds, that granite has always been my bottom layer, or close to it. I have embarked on every different type of rock.

anyone else have this strange bug/feature/string of luck?

Its normal geology.

Granite forms the bedrock of the continents and so is found everywhere. It is more prominent in mountaneous areas as its been brought closer to the surface.

Yeah, Volcanic-type regions have gabbro in the bottom layer, though.

Of course. I embarked on a volcano and Granite (just realized, this said above.). on sedimentary coast, Granite. Besides, I don't want to get rid of it! Far to the contrary, Next time I mod in a mineral, I am adding it to Granite!

I just embarked on an Island and there are not one, not two, but threelayers of granite. I know where my mines are going to be!

Granite is a good stone, probably one of the better non-sedimentary layers. I prefer flux layers, but granite has a good amount of gems, some cassiterite, and other good metals.

If it bothers you too much, you can delete granite. I deleted marble, worthless stone.

How is marble worthless? It's the only flux that isn't sedimentary stone, and thus can more easily occur near magma than the rest.

And cassiterite is useless if there isn't a single vein of copper on your map.

regardless, the slime shooter will be completed, come hell or high water, which are both entirely plausible setbacks at this point.

new name, new problem.

For some reason my dwarves are putting seeds by the ****ton into my clotheirs workshop, of all places. there are about 50 seeds in there, none of them in bags.

I was makeing bags, but for sand collection, not for seed storage. any Idea why my dwarves all went mad?

Maybe the seed storing jobs were queued up but the bag was "destroyed/lost" when they arrived.

The way in which containers get dedicated for a particular purpose is that a Dwarf carries an item to a container which then becomes an "item container" (plant barrel, for example).  After that, the container gets stored in the stockpile appropriate for its contents.  I am guessing that you had a whole bunch of Dwarves who saw a bag, or bags, appear at the clothier.  They all ran over carrying one seed each, hoping to gain a seed bag for the seed stockpile.  Sadly, the sand collector got the bags first so the Dwarves dropped the seeds they were carrying when they arrived and wandered off for a drink.

I always mod granite to be usable as flux, so I need not worry about that when picking an embark site.
