Sim city 4 woes
« on: November 06, 2009, 10:30:05 pm »

THIS PART HAS BEEN  REVISED TO GIVE A BETTER DISCRIPTION OF THE PROBLEM

Specs

===============
Vista 64bit
AMD Phemom X4 2.5Ghz
6Gbs Ram
NIVDIA 9800GT
Monitor Generic Dell 1280x 1024 60Hz (EfpXXXXX)
===============

  Well, my computer seems to be minimizing sim city 4 after a few minutes of starting.What seems to be happening is that when I click on something the game would bring me back to the desktop.

  This would be characterized as clicking on an antivirus pop-up during a game,it'd put the game on the Task bar(Blue/Green bar at the bottom of the screen).

  The strange thing is that my AV does not put up these pop-ups.So I am thinking about a few possable possablities.

1.
  I got the game while waiting for my replacement GPU(frist GPU broke), so it could be just the fact that this was a calibration Issue.I did play a few other games during this time, it seemed that Mercs 2 and Empire total war diddn't get affected, but Day of Defeat: Source did( It went to desktop as I clicked the ok button on the MOTD,bear in mind that this happened on the frist server I joined).

2.
  Now being that I got Mercs 2 and Sim city 4 at the same time I tended to play both of them right after each other,normaly starting with Mercs 2. I noticed that both games were set at improper resolutions.So I could be just being cuaght in a"blink" were the screen goes back into normal resolution.

3.
According to the Steam users form I may be just clicking on something in the backround,I don't really know what I could be clicking on.Although I do tend to start the game by using the game shortcut rather than the Menu it creates(It used the old disk check system so I have a tendency to start the game and have a menu on screen at the same time,now I know that the auto menus do? have a "always on top" tag on them).

Thats all I have, if you do have any questions to ask please tell me, I really would like to start enjoying this game.

I wondered why the TC was still alive.

You actually bought Sim City 4? An EA game that is a single player game? Are you on drugs?

Nobody should pay EA anything, then they'll become desperate and make good games instead of the crap they produce on a conveyer belt.

Sim city four is great, and it was made before the decline of EA.

I love that game, very enjoyable.

Yes it is on Full screen, it's just annoying to see the games freeze up then minimise

I remember having a similar problem a while ago. I can remember being extremely pissed of because of it, but unfortunately i can't remember which game it was or exactly how I fixed it... I'm pretty sure it was because of a background process stealing focus. Check if java update or adobe update or another application updater is running in the background, kill them off and see if that stops the problem.

Sounds like you could possibly have a virus, might want to scan just to be safe.  You could also have something running that is causing it. Try killing all un-needed processes with task manager and see if that helps. If it does, you might have to go one by one to find the culprit.

Quit being a fucking fanboy, Im fairly certain quite a few people are getting sick of reading all the big mega corp hate. I know I am. So please quit with that shit. I buy EA games. I buy a lot of EA games. Some of my favorite games were published by EA.

Yeah, I buy not EA games, but EA games I like, and I couldn't care less for the name of the developer if the game is great.
Let's all rage upon the andy1005 and stop this debate already.

I haven't played SC4 for a long time, but it was quite easy to "beat" it. However it allowed you to apply some creativity if you felt like it, it was a nice sandbox game.

You can't beat Simcity! I've been playing the same region for years. The population has almost hit 10 million, but it's kinda boring playing now because there are no empty region tiles for me to build new cities on. :( Everything's taken.

Oh, and I'm using Windows 7 64-bit with a geforce 9500 and absolutely no problems.

What I like to do, is make dedicated zones. I take a whole region and set it up kind of like a real city. One "city" would be the commercial district that forbids dirty industry and imports all of its power from the dirty industry neighbor. It makes for some pretty awesome looking regions.
