Plant reaction issue.
« on: November 06, 2009, 03:52:30 am »

Sorry, I'm sure you guys have heard this a hundred times, but I'm having a problem and searching the forum doesn't seem to be offering much help.  I have a reaction, here.

... and a "plant", here:

I'm using generic stone in the reaction for testing purposes, but every time I use this reaction it just produces 'plant [9]'.  As far as I can tell everything is in order.  What am I missing?

From my knowledge, there wouldn't appear to be a way to make plants via reaction. However, you might get a similar result by having "Warpstone Crystals" grow underground like other plants, without being able to farm them. I've done the same with Salt crystals. Mmm, delicious Pure Salt Roast.

Apparently having a redundant creature entry causes the game to say, "Oh, look, it's crazy world now. Nothing makes sense! Alligators live in houses!"

The problem with growing it is that I intend to have it refined from an adamantine replacement.  Are you certain there's no way to smelt plants?  At all?  I'm certain I've managed to do it with plump helmets before, as a cheater's way to get undeground seeds for a human settlement.

I'd have thought you would have to have the reaction produce seeds.

Are you trying to get your dwarves high?

Not dwarves, per se.

Those should work fine, and in fact, they did work fine in a test game - at least I got warpstone gravel, I didn't test further than that. The only differences between the posted raws and the raws I used should be inconsequential (prefstring and reaction naming). Did you try generating a new world?

I did, I even tried a fresh install of DF with nothing but this reaction and plant added.  Still no dice.  Would you mind posting the raws you managed to get to work?

Sure:

Spoiler: reaction (click to show/hide)

Spoiler: gravel (click to show/hide)

And looking over the differences again, I'm pretty sure that none of it should matter. I also managed to brew gravel into brew.

This is embarassing.  Turns out the one and only problem was that I used [OBJECT:PLANT] rather than [OBJECT:MATGLOSS].

Sorry for the trouble and thanks for helping me out!

No problem. There's so many pitfalls in modding, such an error is easy to make.
