Yeah, the pets are good, but the elves, high elves and vamari should all trade, so we should get plenty of those, and I don't want to cripple our ability to arm a few dwarves in case the orcs show up early. Probably won't bring the axes, though, because they just cost too much for something you can readily make on site (simply bring all the ingredients for a few bars of steel. 2xbitco, 6xiron ore 6xflux will get 6 axes for less than the price of one.), so that will free up some points for livestock.

..Is it too late to apply to join?

I'm excellent at making organic fort designs.
And I despise the generic fort design.

Posting to watch.

Oh, and if you get Undead Dinosaurs...watch out. Those things can be brutally hard to deal with.

Alright.
First off, how long will turns be? half a year, or a year?

Also, ditch the anvil, as we can trade for one in the first autumn using rock crapfts.

So anyway, I implore you NOT to make the regular "max efficiency, machine fort". Instead, make something more visually pleasing, and not too block-like. Other than not relying completely on traps/marksrapists, I'm good.

I don't build for efficiency anyway. But do you really think we'll be able to get an army ready by the first winter (the earliest Orcs can siege) if we don't forge anything until then?

Edit: I was intending on standard year/week turns.

Dyansaurai can also siege in the first year with the Unleashed version of Civilization Forge.

They don't usually show up until the first winter, although I have seen them show up as early as Fall.

Even sans forging on a magma-licious map it's fairly easy to get them armed early with swords, hand axes, or spears with obsidian. Armor is more difficult but you can cobble together enough leather and bone if you can't forge your own.

True, and I suppose that I'll have enough metal stockpiled by then to forge quickly once I get an anvil.

How's this for embark

Dwarves (5 points in each skill)
Miner/Engraver
Marksdwarf/bowyer
Carpenter/Architect
Weaponsmith/Armorsmith
Blacksmith/Metalcrafter
Gem Setter/Stonecrafter
Appraiser/Furnace Operator

1 Copper Mattoce
20 Dwarven Wine
40 Dwarven Beer
5 Pig Tail Seeds
15 Slime Mold
30 Turtle
30 Plump Helmet Spawn
35 Sweet Pod Seeds
4 Giant War Beetle
2 Cats
2 Cows
4 Pigs

As for rules, can we agree not to make a ton of traps or seal off the fort?

Hello, Is it too late for me to be joining this delightful looking game?
I have some experience with forts but never used mods before.
Could you perhaps be kind enough, if I am accepted ofcourse, to send me the modded game.

Another question, What about the ruler's log? Will we be making those?

No I'm not psychic. I just know that this is dwarf fortress. and the most stupidly awesome and inexplicable thing is probably going to be the first thing to happen.

To Stas, it's never to late, and a ruler's log is standard for a Succession game.

As to the Embark, I think I'd be more inclined to bring a second Miner and Mattock than a Blacksmith/Metalcrafter, and additionally you have no wood, and no way to get wood, for beds. I'd bring at least 30 wood, and regular giant beetles, and simply activate someone for animal training once we get there. Also, a Grower is always good to have, since they increase food output, and a brewer, for happy thoughts.
