Eh, it's supposed to be anti-laser armor. But I'll turn it down.

Also, I've been working on each for about half a day.

1) unless you use a very strange bump map and it's an intentional effect, you shuld probably increse anti aliasing, or use less reflection blur if you're doing that.
2) Considering the use of reflectivity, I think this would profit greatly from some kind of enviroment map/skybox.
3) while it IS a spaceship, and might be some plastic steel of future material like that, I still think it shuld look less sterile and plastic. Making it more specular with a darker difuse colour, and adding some numers and leters in half-worn-of plain mgith help this matter a bit.
4) similarly, use more intresting ligthning! This is space, and so you shuld probably have no or litle ambient lgithning, but you can stil use a light that mimics indirect ligth from a planet, and it migth look better to put the sun coming from a much sjharper angle, and pherhaps tinted a litle.
5) at a more abstract higher level, it's hard to get a proper concept of purposefullness. Making something that looks like a real structure is not just abaut randomly generating a shape and then putting  guns on it. You have to think: what does this part DO?; this thing somhow dosn't give the impression that there are people inside.

Other than this, nice work!

you should totally go work at some hotshot company and make spaceship fighting games.

Do copious flybys of ship damage, as well as a full-on spacedock view.

@Alex. I'm not offering downloads until I fix the rigging on the ships. As of now, the turrets are rather screwed, so I'll have to fix them.

I didn't mean that I wanted a download... I just wanted to know the extension of the files... I've been toying a bit with opengl and learned that blender's (and 3ds?) md2 files were seemingly easy to load.  I'd like to know what other types of file types do modelers use for their objects so I can learn how to load them in the future.

These look really nice. I've tried to do 3d modelling with Blender, but I always get frustrated after a few hours and quit.

They help, it still takes a fair pit of practice and work, but they really help alot.
