So they've got people who blood hunt while snacking on the leftovers, and then kill some brigands who disagree...  Man, you gotta have loads of growth to counteract that.

Still though, sounds awesome.  I may actually into Dom3 again, although...  Eh, I don't know.  The price tag is indeed awfully high, and fluff games aren't that common...  And for whatever reason, I actually preferred the UI of the first Dominions over the later titles, although that might just be a graphics thing.  It's been ages since I've played anything in the series.

I actually agree about the UI. I always thought D2 (and thus D3) was a major step backwards. It's been long enough that the specific reasons for thinking this are lost to me, but the conviction remains.

For fun with Hinnom, get your capital in a resource-heavy province, build a ton of temples, then recruit 15 or 20 sacred troops in a single turn. Your unrest will jump from 0 to 150 or so instantly.  ;D

I have got to start seeing some pictures of all this.

Well, I'm reluctant to show more "relevant" battles until something interesting happens. But here's a short series of screenies showing the oh-so-exciting taking of Pyre Sands over three months. This would be where my merman captain Togrul Beg got singled out for "special treatment".

Spoiler: Turn 8 - Pyre Sands (click to show/hide)

Spoiler: Turn 9 - Pyre Sands (click to show/hide)

Spoiler: Turn 10 - Pyre Sands (click to show/hide)

This examination of the historical record shows that Xi Mi's anger at Togrul was slow in coming, and entirely justified. He sent his lieutenant to led the attack on Ariod's holdings rather than leading it personally, he misused the troops put under his command (had he used flankers on the first or second attempt, Ariod would likely have been overrun), and despite his copious whining to the contrary, he was given ample Atlantian regulars, which he sent to vain and gruesome deaths. Few of the people of Molehill died until the final assault, when newly-promoted Captain Ylid managed to finally see Ariod slain. Okay, Master Gibur did, as Ylid was too busy running to notice. But who's counting?

Somewhat unrelated, but while playing as Neifelheim I (sort of, because I set no commands and basically left them for dead)  managed to hold out a castle with 9 giants and 2 jarls against 175 fir bolg militia/archers and 10 commanders with only 3 giants dieing.

Togrul awoke screaming from a nightmare. It was the same one, of course. Every night, his sleep gave way to horrific visions of the things that had butchered his men. Almost threescore soldiers under his command, and every one of them had been torn limb from limb or crushed beneath the gargantuan feet of those tentacled... things. What were they? He had never seen such monsters, and could only compare them to the tales of demonic kraken his father had frightened him with as a child.

He shivered, not entirely from the cold. Though cold it was - midsummer and there was frost on the trees. What was happening to the world? What was happening to him? He had known the cursed false prophet had planned to visit horrors upon him for failing her, but he had never envisioned something so terrible as those land-kraken. Yet she had sent his company into their lair with not the least warning. She had sent nearly sixty souls to their deaths, simply to punish him.

And now she tormented him with nightmares. How long before her emissaries found him once more? He thought he had seen Atlantian tracks yesterday. They were searching for him. The would find him. They would humiliate him for his cowardice in abandoning his fellows, but they wouldn't strip him of his command, or even execute him. No, they would assign him an underling to act as his jailer, and send him off to whatever fresh torment their prophet had devised for him.

Togrul whimpered softly and sunk a little deeper into his blanket.

Togrul is a moron.  Those are elephants, not kraken.  You can't expect to win if you can't even identify your opponents.  That's what you get for putting slimy fish-humpers in command.  Breathing in all that mercury and sewage has made them stupid.

You've been dumping mercury and sewage into the oceans? Protect the environment or I'll fucking kill you!

That video isn't available in Mictlan.

That's a good idea though.  We'll pollute the water, killing the stuff the atlantians eat.  Then they'll die.  Then we won't have to figure out how to blow up the ocean (Our previous plan for dealing with them)

I've got a nice little hidey-hole, with only two or three entrances where I can place forts.

In a nutshell, Hinnom is a bunch of Mesopotamian-style anthropophagous giants descended from licentious angels. Blood nation, with some of the strongest troops (and PD) in the game. Their heroes, some of their commanders, and sacred troops eat population, which unsurprisingly generates unrest.

I honestly didn't know they ate population at first. I had 2 Baal, a Melqart and 5 of the raephite giants sitting in my capital.

While they may be some of the strongest troops I've learned first hand that they lose toe to toe against a Niefel Jarl. But that's okay, just means I need to be craftier  :D

Now, now... Ambassador Olgothu asks you to be kind to poor Togrul. It's not his fault that his tribe of halfbreeds were born on the shore rather than beneath the waves. Because of this cruel accident of birth, he considers himself the subject of a muckdweller monarch - in fact, he considers himself a muckdweller. The lack of a proper Atlantian education left him superstitious and ignorant, and twenty-three years of having his brain poisoned by solar radiation and his skin picked at by assorted parasites (for his "people" lack the basic hygiene skills so eloquently advocated by the good Lieutenant  Bandar) has further reduced his mental capacities to the point where he's scarcely wiser than a Nahaulli or Moon Priest.

But even given his grievously hampered intellect, it's base and cruel to mock the mentally challenged. Your Advocate before the Assembly does not hold it against you, however, for the same reason she urges you to refrain from judging Togrul's hideously misshapen worldview and rank ignorance. Civilized beings do not mock the customs and upbringing of others, nor deride them as moronic even when their idiocy is as breathtaking as Togrul's. In the spirit of generosity, Olgothu concedes that you may have felt it acceptable to mock his intelligence because in doing so you did not mock one more ignorant or backwards than yourself, but she urges you to remember that courtesy demands that you do not belittle vulgar cretins, even when they are more intelligent than you.

Oh, so that's how it is?

Note to self:  When sending disease demon to Lieutenant Bandar, send one to Ambassador Olgothu next.
