7 (maybe more) wonders of the world
« on: November 04, 2009, 08:39:02 pm »

I am beginning a worldwide campaign for my latest genned world. I will be building gigantic, sweet looking wonders. I will stock them with artifacts, masterpiece things, and the tombs of dead champions. If you have any creative ideas, place them here and I will attempt to make them come true.

1. "Church of Iden" Background info: Iden is a goddess associated with oceans. The church was orignally going to be a lighthouse, but due to size limitations will be changed into a church. (currently working on bell tower.) Will have a tall bell tower with a cross, and a courtyard surrounded by at least 4 z-level tall walls.
2. I like the idea of the great maze that UndergroundTree mentioned. I will most likely be working on that. I might have to increase the frequency of dungeon type creatures so I can capture them and place them in there.
3. The Hanging gardens of Dwarfalon that Kietharr mentioned will definately be made in some fashion (may use a magma fall instead of a waterfall)
4. A series of Pyramids connected by a system of underground corridors filled with tombs and loots.
5. An Isengard style tower fortress. Hopefully will be made purely of obsidian, with magma pits, and close to a goblin fortress.
6. A map-encumpasing colliseum. Will have floodgates and grates attached to levers to change the terrain as I choose. Will try to capture lions to put onder the arena with stairs and floor hatches to let out as I please.
7. "Cave of Oggez" Background info: Oggez is a goddess associated with caverns and often takes the shape of a giant toad. Therefore I will hollow out a mountain and make a giant toad statue in it.

I made a blog for this topic just in case it goes inactive and those of you who don't want to seem like thread necromancers can still post comments on it.   http://7dwarfishwonders.blogspot.com/2009/11/church-of-iden.html

Yikes, the Orcs have a nasty language.  Traditional foreplay would be right out for them; how would they ever "say my name" for one another?  No wonder Ocrs are always so bloodthirsty and violent, they're getting sub-par action.

Upside-down pyramid hanging from the ceiling of a cavern.

That would be as deadly to the wielder as to anyone else!  You'd sever your own arm at the first swing!  It's perfect!

1. The Great Lighthouse of Armok: Build a tower at a coastal site to the highest Z level, preferably out of red material. Decorate higher levels with gold, silver, platinum, and clear glass/rare gem windows and such. If magma is available, create a magma fall via pumps, and/or light a lignite bin via the magma and use it as the beacon.

2. The Hanging Gardens of Dwarfalon: Carve out a gigantic cavern on a map with underground water, but leave a multi tiered somewhat pyramidal structure. Smooth it but don't engrave. Create a waterfall to drop water onto the top level of said structure then drain it into a chasm or bottomless pit after it irrigates all of the tiers. Wait for tower caps to grow and presto, instant wonder of the underworld. Engrave the walls if desired, decorate with gold, and possibly make a lavishly decorated interior with all sorts of waterworks, engravings, and pretty statues.

3. The Vault: Carve out a several story high room in a mountain, preferably on a site with more than one mountain. Engrave the entire thing (use scaffolds to engrave higher walls) and then mine out ALL of the ore in your area and make it all into items, then place the items in the vault. Possibly make subsidiary rooms for weapons, armor, ect. Decorate the hell out of everything, make it as high quality as possible. Place all artifacts in the vault, if you have valuable wood clear cut it and make stuff with it and vault it, move all of your booze and food into the vault (lock it behind a door to make the next step go as quickly as possible) then when the map is exhausted, make tons of coffins and place them in a subsidiary room or understory to the vault, seal off your original fort with walls, or collapse it if you want, and lock all of your dwarves in the vault.

Create a massive statue, 100 z-levels if possible, and make it out of the highest value material available.

You should make this into an Adventurer challenge when it's done; don't tell anyone what you've created, just post the world when you're done and let us explore for them!

I've never tried it and there's a good chance it could make them freak out.
Do it.

I will make it an adventurer challenge.I will post how many deaths it takes to make them, and what kind of treasure might be in it. I'm starting my first one right now. The more ideas you guys post, the better. I'll try to combine some of the features that I think are the best from some of your ideas and make something out of it. If at all possible each project will involve magma.

Hopefully I can keep this thread alive long enough for me to allow adventurers to get the save without making it seem like thread necromancy.

For the lighthouse, you should have a burning artifact for the beacon. Thermonuclear bins go out after a while.

I think I'm going to make a list of some of the projects I will be making so you guys can add some ideas to them.

How would you be able to light an artifact on fire?  Surround it with flaming dwarves?  Would that even work?

Oh, and maybe colour it so that it looks like a Rubik's Cube from the outside. :)

Lol, I wish I could, but thats asking too much. One question, is there a limited amount of z-levels that you can go up? because I just realized the lighthouse will be pretty f**king gigantic.
