With the already fluent speaking of the Zanith, it isn't hard to find suitable sigils to convert their words to, in order to scratch them into walls, or draw them in dirt. You now have WRITING. hooray.

Your scout returns to the base, and another is sent out. However, a hunter from the race lurks in the grasses to the side.  Your scout walks past it, oblivious, The hunter throws a strange contraption at your scout, but it misses and crashes into the bushes to the side. Before your scout has a chance to react, The hunter throws a spear. The spear flies in, Hitting your scout in the leg, and piercing far in. The scout tries to run anyway, but the hunter hits it over the head with a stone, twice, and it falls unconcious. After being bound, it is brought to the camp. Your choices are.

Your scout (can I call him Verss?) moves through the bushes quietly, rock spear in one hand, bolas held loosely in the other. Tracking the lumbering beast stealthily, he follows it all the way back to a village full of them. Hissing in dissappointment, he droops, and makes ready to leave back to the camp, when suddenly, another one comes out of the village and heads towards it. Seeing the opportunity, the Lactarl crouches to the side, and waits as it passes. (H2T 50%) - True.. Once it has walked past him, oblivious, Verss readies his bolas. (H2T 50%) - False Unfortunately, the bolas miss, and go crashing into the bush. Before the creature has a chance to react, Verss readies his spear, hoping that he doesn't hit a vital organ. (H2T 75%) - True. The spear flies in, catching the creature. Running up, Verss sees it has hit the thing's (H2T 33%) - False + (H2T 66%) - True leg, going straight into it. The creature still tries to get up, but Verss quickly hits it over the head before it can move. After two hits, it falls unconcious, and he binds it and slowly hauls it back to camp.

New Martian emperor and the Zuick

The Zuick now have realised the silly ideas behind trying to drop large rocks on a moving target. Now, they throw fist sized rocks, aiming for a head.

You have researched Elected Oligarchic Democracy (level 2 government)
Possibly the biggest name possible for a pre-archaic form of government, but it seems to suit. Ten of the race are elected for life to choose topics of question, and bring them up in a meeting. When they have been brought up, the race votes on which is the smarter idea. This is a slower form of working out ideas, but it's less flawed than mob rule.

Your scouts reveal a lake far upriver. On the north side of the lake lives a different race, who hunt with spears and strange contraptions made of vines.

You may scout again for a better look, however it increases the chance of your scout being seen.

Thorus the warrior watched the ever improving Lactarl militia train, some threw spears others sparred with the stone axes, soon he hoped the tribe would have warriors the likes of which would be unmatched.

Ssrathi was seldom seen recently most of his time spent either with only the eldest of the villagers as they discussed the tribe's next steps and with Rasth as the pair continued their work on 'The Histories'. One particular annoyance that was starting to irratate Ssrathi were the effects of nature with the Lactarl homes as they were there was not much protection against the elements and this had to change.

And so the elders decided that they should elect themselves leaders. This passed without many taking note of it, mostly because informally, this was what was already going on. Meanwhile, the scouts decided to return, the Zuick being a naturally cautious species. So, with not much else to do, the people began to turn their minds to higher matters, such as fire and its prettiness, and how to successfully rid the world of the bastard creatures that hunt them.

An old half blind elder rambling on about some higher power killed one of our noosed short, quadrapedal animals and burnt the body on the fire. Seems mad I think but there is no doubting that he is wise and seems to just know when people are lieing (Smell lies) a few of the younger herd have started listening to his ramblings and taken it upon themselves to build an alter of some kind and burnt the remaining quadrupeds, they say in thanks. (Culture: form the basis of religious sect, currently based around burning offerings on their newly built alter and converting others to the true way.).

The council are unsure what to do about this strangeness, nor who they are thanking, but we will keep an eye on it. For now we need to replenish our livestock. (Husbandry)

K'ltcrtz

A race of horrible bug like 6 legged chittering swarms, these monstrosities hunt by laying dormant until a target comes nearby, at which point they burst out in ambush. Normally the swarm identifies each other by the constant twitching and the smell of the mucous they secrete between the bands in their body, and once a swarm has made contact with their target, the nauseous smell they release quickly brings in all the others nearby.

It's worth noting that once one a K'ltcrtz has discovered a target, they will often make blind jumps to where they believe it to be, effective given that a K'ltcrtz can jump quite high, and far. Far faster than they can move on ground.

Their swarming tendencies are necessary however, as individually, they could probably be destroyed by any other creature, and their inability to individually find food is compounded by the problem of how little of the normal physical senses they use. A swarm, if not hive's interdependence on finding food, something that individually they consume very little of, is a natural progression of their evolution.

K'ltcrtz are also scavengers on a relatively basic level, willingly eating any meat they discover, almost completely regardless of it's state, although fresh meat will always be required every so often.

-2- Parasitic: The race is inherently aesexual, instead, they reproduce by burrowing into another creature's body, and laying eggs inside, which would eventually hatch. Note that this is actually a DISADVANTAGE. They must have another host body in order to reproduce because of this. They are not capable of manipulation of the host or anything, and would be closer to some kind of disease if they attacked wild animals for all it's worth. ((Note that this also means that while some hunted animals will be eaten, others must be left alive to harbor eggs. They can't kill those hosts.))

3- Burrowing: Capable of burrowing underground, most K'ltcrtz will wait for something to move above, when the swarm moves out in mass. This ability would be mainly to be used for their hunting method. They move fast, but they're terrible at detecting enemies, so they usually wait for prey to come to them.

-10: Useless Tech: Without proper opposable thumbs, or most standard tool-usage related functions, the K'ltcrtz instead focus on surviving a sudden situation change and trying to adapt to the new situation rather than improving simple technological functions.

5-  Hivemind: As a race, the K'ltcrtz function similar in almost all ways to a hivemind, working in unison for the entire swarm. They have no goverment, only the logic of the hive.
