Since you can't just have the day end with 2 people voting on someone and getting a lynch, the town as a whole becomes more involved in actually having to make choices.  What's more, without a deadline shutting the conversation down, we can keep the talk going for as long as we need to.

The thing about Hammering is that putting someone to L-1 happens often, but the actual Hammervote takes much longer since hammering early is a Very Very Strong scumtell.  The hammer always gets suspected so you need to have a good reason or the town's support to lynch.


Also, voting is easier to do with Hammering since you don't have to worry about voting then the deadline forcing a lynch.  Again, if a player causes that then, chances are, they are scum anyway.

Traditionally, if the conversation dies, the host has the power to set a deadline to end the day.  As for what happens if a deadline is reached without a hammer, I've seen a few situations:

1. Most votes dies
2. No lynch no matter what
3. (most common I've seen) if half of the required votes is on one person, lynch.. otherwise, no lynch


So the host can end the day if the town doesn't want to.  It's traditionally a bad thing since it means the town is being apathetic, which almost always brings a mafia win (especially once the kill off the active ones).
