A curious discovery
« on: November 02, 2009, 10:59:31 pm »

Huh. Traps don't seem to be affected by cave-ins (specifically, a trap on a surface that is deconstructed seems to hover in midair, at least it did for me).

This gives me ideas. What if something is flung through the air and passes through a tile containing a freefloating trap? Could you use a drawbridge to fling a pack of prisoners into a wall of floating weapon traps?

Armok help me.

I also wonder if he were to pass through a mid-air stonefall trap what would happen if there was a creature standing under the trap at the same moment. Not as cool as your idea though, what with the blood rain and limbs everywhere.

The only problem is that creatures being flung through the air don't exist.

Creatures that are flung through the air don't interact with anything that isn't a wall (including trees and fortifications for this purpose). They're basically put into stasis while they fly. They'll fly through gratings unharmed; they certainly aren't going to be affected by a trap.

Maybe this would effect flying creatures?

Freefloating Giant Eagle traps? That reduces the chance of success exponentially... It must be done.

Someone else'll have to try to duplicate it. For me, it worked when I built a wall, it had a trap on top of it, then I deconstructed the wall.

I don't have any flyers on my map, so... not much I can do to test it.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)
I make pics.

As has been stated before unfortunately creatures that are flung are essentially non-existant.  This leads to the curious case of goblins "falling" to the bottom of a magma pipe without being instantly incinerated.

What about dropped creatures? If you fling something off of a ledge (a prisoner, that is) and he happens to hit a number of super-science hovertraps on the way down... does he turn into a fine mist in midair?

(edit)

I meant this to indicate people who have been pitted.

Whenever a creature that cannot fly has no ground under him, he is considered "falling". When he's falling, he doesn't technically exist. So pitting wouldn't work either.

It might effect flying creatures. The easiest way to test this would be to capture a flying creature, then set up a room with a ceiling covered with "floating" cage traps and release it on the ground. If it gets recaptured, it works. Just note that you may get spammed with "Cancels load cage trap: no access" or whatever they spam when they can't reach a cage trap.
