Connan Frai?

I didn't make it up, I got it from a KoTOR fic I read.

I beat KOTOR a video game with containers a few times. Hint: Don't forget to loot and plunder every container you see.

Anyway, mastermind.

This was introduced in Zelda wasn`t it? You walk in some house, steal everything you can, destroy all the vases and whole time nobody takes care. And it is even in new games, why??? I remember only Gothic had some people defending their property, but ...

Anyway, hooray, let`s play I am looking forward to.

In Link's Awakening, you can steal from the shopkeepers, but you'll automatically die if you re-enter their shop, and everyone will call you THIEF.

In the Geneforge series, if you stela certain items, you'll get charged with the crime of stealing, and if this happens too many times, you'll be exiled and lose the game.

Houselooting (often without consequence) dates pretty much back to when CRPGs came out of the caves and into the overworld.

Waaaaaaay back in the day, the Ultima series had chests that could be looted all over the place, but you'd either get guards sic'd on you or your virtue would suffer if they were deemed to be Not Yours. Wasteland had similar mechanisms whereby you had to be selective in your looting (sometimes it was defended, sometimes not). IIRC, its grandchild, Fallout 2, lampshaded this common "game mechanic" in a special encounter with commentary on the Vault Dweller's tendency to waltz into someone's house and steal everything not nailed down.

Everyone, we've hit a snag--I've CTD twice now, at the exact same point. I'll try to figure out what to do, but this is putting it on a hold for a bit.

Sergeant Major sounds more badass.

Because you KNOW the Sergeant will kick your ass, and pull through.

RPG world gave a plausible(sorta) explanation for this: If a guy with a 6 foot sword started ransacking your house, would you argue with him?

Oh yeah, and in KOTOR1, if you open up any container within the Sand People HQ, they'll attack you. It doesn't get you any dark side points though.

I remember in Super Mario RPG, (prone to the above symptoms) there was one random chest in a house that if you opened it, an NPC mentioned that it had been stolen. You also get the option to say if you did it or not... I just said I didn't. ;)

In keeping with derailing this a bit, in Secret of Evermore (also prone to the above symptoms), there is a room with some chests inside a house where you are rewarded with an alchemy formula (read: spell) if you DON'T open them and try to leave.  ...then the owner lets you have the contents of the chests anyway, in addition to the formula.

But yeah, back to the LP?  I have nothing to offer as far as name suggestions.
