I guess you can say, if you lack a proper avatar (or aren't too easily recognizable), or I won't be able to remember your name, you're pretty much as good as a redshirt to me.

Hey! I'm not a red shir--*BLAM*
Without an avatar I'm just like the tiny guy in the corner who no one listens to. I need to find one.

I recognize posters more by avatars than by name, mostly due to the fact that many forum names are not easy for me to say, so I can't remember them well.

Aside from that, since this is the internet, I refuse to believe that the avatar has any connection to the poster or post, same thing I do with any ads.  It's all just flashing lights and colors to me anymore.

When I see Dasleah's avatar, I know someone's about to get smacked down, so I get excited.  When I see Tack's old avatar my spine kind of tingles with irritation.

Aqizzar's avatar I know is going to say something momentous.

I identify people from a mix of avatar and name but with some people it's almost entirely avatar, for example when qwertyuiopas changed from the tunnel it took me a couple of days to figure out who he was, it was only when I saw him do a post with the progression of his avatars in that I realised.

I have to wonder what effect my avatar has on peoples perception of me? I'm kind of afraid it might make me seem ... cute.

I mean, look at that stare.  Just look at it.

That's a stare that says, "I do not care for your mucking about.  What I am about to say is how things will be."

Know that I do not discriminate against the avatarless.  Servant Corps for instance, nice guy.

Servant Corps has an avatar.

Also, has my new avatar changed anyone's perception of me?

It makes you seem knowledgeable, but that may be because I just see the glasses.

I see you as a barman in SS13. Or more correctly I think of the barman in SS13 as looking like you.

Servant Corps has an avatar.

What?  Stop messing with my head.  If Servant Corps had an avatar I'd be able to see it.

Also, your new avatar is sufficiently odd for it's purpose, even if I'm still used to the old classic art one.

I think Servant Corps is the one with a small seethrough square as an avatar.

EDIT: Ok maybe not Servant Corps but someone has a small seethrough square as an avatar.

I'm not sure what people think of when they see my avatar.

Probably something negative.

Was that bowler hat there a minute ago?
I recognize a lot of people by their avatars. Those without 'em, can't really remember many. WIth the fads, I get confused between who's who.
I don't think there isn't much to tell from my avatar.

Currently a bit of a hermit crab when it comes to avatars, as I don't have any I'm really attached too.  Hmm, maybe I should go down to the botanic gardens and take myself a nice picture of a snail...

For now, please avert your gaze.

I used to have no avatar, anywhere. Then I met this picture in an avatar thread, and i just HAD to use it. It was a thread to help a person to get an avatar. He chose another picture, so i asked him and then grabbed this one, which was refused.

Now, i think I won't change it. Not anytime soon at least.
