For interested parties based upon the data Kardos posted I have made a line graph, so people can see more clearly the trends. You can see the December and the New Version spikes quite clearly. There appears to have until this summer been a correlation where every other month was a good month, with donationathon/release months preceding (or causing) 1+ month dry spurts. Recently, the trend seems to have levelled out somewhat.


Also, assuming that donations are normal (not a small assumption) this graph's height correlates with the probability of a month's donation total- that is, the taller the graph, the more likely that amount is to be the amount given. Any month that has less than 2500 dollars in donations is below the mean and therefore below what Toady has on average been earning to this date, so 2500 should be the first goal for all donation threads.

To this end I have donated $20 USD, since I've been free-riding far too long even though now of all times is the least of when I can afford it.

We do have a little bit of a buffer though due to the fact that there are regular donation-bearers who use forums other than our own (I'm looking at you somethingawful) or no forum at all. So he will always end up receiving more than the listed value on the donation thread.
