Minecraft UI is very simple. There's only so many ways you can implement "simple" without copying something. We also gonna complain that it uses WASD?

Artifacts only differ from normal objects in that they're rather expensive, can't be traded, can be made out of materials it normally wouldn't, and (if it happens to be weapon/armor) have a lot better attack/defense.

So your animal trap isn't going to do anything special.

they are also indestructible... IN THEORY you could use a Floodgate made from Wood as a Magma Gate

Although they can catch on fire, in which case they burn forever.  Good for getting rid of worthless wooden armor and such.

An artifact animal trap is mostly good for drastically increasing the value of some room.

As a matter of fact, you can, but it'll come off if the mechanism you use on it isn't magma-safe, THEN it will burn I think.

Since when are artifacts indestructible? I demand evidence!

I'm pretty certain artifacts aren't immune to bridges dwarven atom smashers.

You can take a look at Sparkgear 5, where a clothing artifact caught fire and burned for several years before settling down to a quiet smokeless !!smoulder!!.

But atom smashing and chasming are probably fatal.

Well, that doesn't really count. Atom smashers are a bug.

Put it in your food stockpile. Someone'll eat it eventually.

Yeah, at the moment all dwarves prefer vermin from animal traps to dwarven cheese roasts. It's a bug. So the critter should be gone soon enough, assuming it's unforbidden and such.

You can also tame it, after which you should be able to put it in a cage or let some dwarf adopt it.

Fire tends to take a while to consume anything though, not just artifacts, so I'm not terribly convinced there.
