Remember, the smart farmers kicked the collective asses of the strong hunter-gathers becuase they had more people (which let them have bigger, professional armies and people dedicated to developing and making weapons). Of course, I think that we should be friends with the others.

The only thing that beats intellegence is ZERG RUSH, but I am fairly confidant that they won't develop the required hivemind in time to get us before we can overpower them...

Research into architecture methods, wood shaping, and stone fitting.
I'm guessing that'll get us on the way to mortar.

Not necessarily, permanent settlement came a fair bit after hunter-gatherers and basic growing.
