Pretty decent set of world gen parameters. Works with any mod
« on: October 31, 2009, 08:00:05 am »

"Pretty decent" here stands for MAGMA and AWESOME
I ran this with Dig Deeper and got the following region:

It has:
A sinister scorching savanna next to an evil ocean with an aquifer, sand and Magma. For those who like it rough.
Spoiler (click to show/hide)

A 4x4 embark with an UG river, HFS, sand, Magma and up to 6 chasm tiles. When you need a little one with a big hole.
Spoiler (click to show/hide)

A big seaside cliff next to a haunted ocean. With sand and Magma. If you want to build a huge erection.
Spoiler (click to show/hide)

A mini ocean that fits a single embark. With sand and Magma. For the watersport fans.
Spoiler (click to show/hide)

An evil area with either a chasm, UG river, Magma and a cave site. In case the anthromorphs are your thing. OR a seaside HFS spot if you want some good old domination on the beach.
Spoiler (click to show/hide)

A 7x5 mountain range in a haunted tundra with UG Pool, UG River, some trees, Chasm, Pit, HFS, Sand and Magma. Use protection.
Spoiler (click to show/hide)

There are also multiple locations with variations of the above, so even if you have the weirdest of preferences, you can feel right at home cause this baby has it all! (Look out for the cave sites in the world map, since those tiles are all mountains. Some of them are pretty small areas so there are lots of features huddled together)

All the races are alive, and if you want to see some fun interracial action, I suggest building a bridge to the little continent in the southeast corner. There are some elves there that have never been in contact with the outside world before. (There is a tile that can be bridged)

Every single tile in the region has a magma pool and a magma pipe.

Most of these should appear regardless of your mod.
Without further ado, I present you the
Spoiler: parameters (click to show/hide)
The gen will probably report an error before finishing and generating the world may give you over a thousand rejects.

Then build them yourself!  Most people don't respond warmly to demands, btw.  I also can't help but notice you're complaining when the OP isn't.

That's a fairly interesting little world you've got there.  Almost too bad I don't use Dig Deeper.  Good luck with this one.  It's looks like plenty of Fun.

I have pretty much forgotten the whole thread (Too busy having Fun with this place) I'm currently building a fort concentrated of manufacturing water from ice and flooding the world. The site has magma and sand. If I would have extended my embark a few squares, I could have gotten an ocean tile too.

But yeah, I am somewhat surprised that so few people have been interested. By the way, I just ran the parameters with an another mod and noticed something: This world is really nothing special. After over 1000 rejects the RNG threw up a region that has pretty much everything the above example has (Found a singe tile ocean and numerous multi-feature sites the first go, with lots of evil areas). So feel free to try out the parameters with any mods you got. Or even vanilla.

Every single tile in the region has a magma pool and a magma pipe.

By any chance did you accomplish this by setting the min/max volcanism both to 100?

If so, this has the rather unfortunate side effect of preventing any sedimentary layers from forming, effectively making it so that there is no coal or bauxite (or magnetite) in the entire world.

P.S. If you don't get this note, let me know and I'll write you another.
It's amazing how dwarves can make a stack of bones completely waterproof and magmaproof.
It's amazing how they can make an entire floodgate out of the bones of 2 cats.

in the entire world.
This might be a problem... My slim knowledge of geology has clearly failed me here. Though I do have seen bituminous coal in a world with 100 volcanism (My last fort had a series of long bituminous coal veins just next to the local volcano.) But it is possible I am mistaken (I have never really needed neither coal or bauxite (The orcinite keeps me going nicely)). Though you can easily set the volcanism to be variable.

I forget where on the map this was, but wow.

145 z-levels total...

OPERATION MORDOR IS GO!

EDIT: Yes, the magma pipe is capable of flooding half the map.

Aye, contruct a temple of lag at 2fps.

I once made a worldgen param set that makes worlds that has tons of sites like that one, it was a 33x33 one, with 200 mountain peaks, maximum elevation variety and the elevation mesh at 1,0,2,0,4.
You could embark on a mountain peak, getting all these crazy mountain peaks and plateaus. Made a hermit fort in one of the peaks, was fun, but scrolling through z-levels took ages.

And, for those who didnt know yet, setting volcanism range to 50-100, variation to 1600-1600, and mesh to 1,0,0,0,8 gets you lots of magma without the above problem.

Okay, I embarked on a terrifying conifer forest next to a terrifying ocean.

PAIN.

I started RIGHT NEXT TO three (orc mod) Giant Wolf Spiders. Fortunately, I had the foresight to start with six military dwarves. 3 dead spiders, no injuries, and 30 seconds later another 3 spawn. I decide to let these live, as they were awesome (1 male, 2 female, [PET_EXOTIC] replaced with [PET]. I cage them (built a mechanic's workshop ASAP, and had the foresight to start with a couple cages). YAY 3 soon-to-be-pet spiders.

a.) For some reason, can't tame them. At all. The jobs are automatically cancelled. I had announcements off, so I don't know why, but I'll find out.

(EDIT: I had no available food.)

b.) 30 seconds later another three spawn and kill my six marksdwarves, who had emptied their quivers on the first three. I abandon.

I love this world.
