Let's Play Elona - Back on Track
« on: October 31, 2009, 05:55:08 am »

As you all know (yet few refuses to realize), I am insane. So I decided to start a Let's Play of Elona.

For those of you who don't know, Elona is a japanese roguelike (thankfully it's mostly translated into english), and a pretty humorous one at that. It has most/all of the features of normal roguelikes (randomly generated dungeons, ginormous amounts of YASDs, the usual stuff, the most notable thing however is that it lacks permadeath), and various other features which i will not currently go into detail with.

Anywho, let us begin!

First of all, let us create the main character.

Spoiler: Character Creation (click to show/hide)

Spoiler: Personal Advice (click to show/hide)

Now then, suggest what my character will be!

Yerles are nice, since they start with the firearm skill, but I wouldn't mind a Juere Pianist. It just means that firearms takes a few quests to get to.

Incidentally, one of my best characters was a Juere Pianist, they're actually pretty good since they start with weight lifting and negotiation.

...though i still died a lot. <_<

Hm, i've never tried Lich OR Claymore before. I might go with this, IF i can switch out Vampiric for Tough or Lady Killer.* (I can always pick Vampiric at a later level.)

Edit: *Or maybe Arm Wrestler, because, you know, we're going melee if we do this. >_>

I don't know much of anything about this game at the moment, so don't be surprised if I make absolutely stupid choices going for things that sound nice.  Anyway, my ideas:

Race:  Dwarf (because, come on, dwarf)
Class:  Warmage, for this line:  "the Warmage is believer that stabbing things that are on fire is better than just stabbing them or setting them on fire."  Pianist would be nice too, though, just because piano music is good.  ;D
Gender:  Female
Attributes:  Whatever's good for the class you pick, I suppose
Feats:  Stone Defence, Fire Breath, Natural Leader
Appearance:  Here's what I ended up with playing around with that site you linked to:

As for name and alias, no idea at all.

Obviously, just my ideas and thus can be ignored if they're not good ones, or if everyone else decides otherwise.  :)

Warmage is a pretty decent class, though my preferred choice would be a Warrior or Wizard instead of the Warmage. I have no problems playing one, though. :)

As for feats, the ONLY one i MAY keep would be Stone Defense, i've never found Natural Leader to be any good, and fire breath burns up loot.

I'm going to wait another half an hour, if no one suggests anything by then, i'm going to flip a coin to decide between Lich Claymore or Dwarf Warmage.

Yeah, use that stuff but pick all three luck feats instead.

Swapping out Vampiric is cool, especially if you add it latter... hehehe.  Ladykiller would be best for the big-party concept, obviously.

Alright, roughly half an hour came and went. Time to flip a coin!

Heads: Lich Claymore
Tails: Dwarf Warmage

Tossing...

Tails! Dwarven Warmage it is!

Hehe, seems that the character's perception and learning took an even worse hit than charisma did... ah, well.  Time to see where this goes, now that we're under the sea...

Spoiler: Where are we? (click to show/hide)

Edit: There's a short update after this, and THEN we'll start with the actual gameplay.

Spoiler: Chapter 1 - FFFFFUUUU- (click to show/hide)

We now have a second party member! Who shall claim the Little Girl?

Edit: I just noticed that we have a ridiculously low Learning score, which isn't quite optimal for a magic-user. Remind me to increase this quickly.
