To get it working at all? I don't remember. I'm using a batch file designed to get it to work under XP that I downloaded a few years ago from Strategycore.co.uk or somesuch similar X-Com fansite. Somehow, any screenshots taken while running it in windows mode are pure black for me, so I have to run THAT fix under Dosbox.

Games designed shortly after Windows make me sad, because they just don't work right unless you do really strange stuff. Also, there may be a brief delay on updates - My primary harddrive is failing, and refuses to boot. It still claims to be there if I boot from the secondary, but it BSODed last time I tried to access it from Windows. The game and Dosbox are safely on the secondary drive, but I'd rather not search for my screenshot capture utility again. Hopefully yelling at my computer sufficiently loudly tomorrow will get it to run checkdisk while booting to make the drive boot again. (Run through Windows: "There is an error! I can do nothing while Windows is running though, tough luck!")

Personally, I use frontends for loading Dos games.

Preferably D-Fend Reloaded. It has presets according to what intensity the game is. From really basic to 3d hardware required. It even allows for classic windows 3.1 programs.

It's not dead, don't worry. I'll try for an update within three hours, if my computer's done acting up.

Well, I've classified my hard drive with the screenshot manager on it as "not worth playing with." Not remembering the name of it, I downloaded a new one from Download.com. Being stressed out, I read the error message as it only saving 30 screenshots in its history for quick editing. Turns out it only took 30 screenshots before buying it. Download.com said it was free. Annoyed, I uninstalled it to look for another one. Big mistake.

It cleared my screenshots folder on uninstall.

I didn't remember about DOSbox's built-in screencapture ability until after I was done.

... Thus, you get an update with only one screenshot that had been held on the clipboard. I shall try to piece the update together from memory, and give the missed screenshots that I can retake (like research) in the next update.

TL; DR: I goofed, and a shoddy program killed the screenshots.

Journal of Spartan 117

I cannot remember.

I woke up in a medical facility.

These, these "aliens" took my memories.

I will make them pay.

From the Journal of Metal Militia
Well, Spartan 117 is up again, the combined effet of the bio-boffins, me, crazy mutant lady and a bunch of payed hybrids managed to stop and extracted the brainsucker from his head. Sadly some damage was already caused and mostly iraversable. Also while I was in the effort of stabilising his mind and fighting the will of the alien I happened across some of his memories...

...They we're insteresting to say the least.

Also we managed to take down and recover a weird purple UFO and the tech guys are working on it at the moment. It cost the life of a fellow X-COM operative.

Well that means that theres less of a line in the cantine at least.

This might have to go on hiatus for a big longer. My computer's trying very hard to act like it's dead. It's working again, for now, but I can't get an update up tonight and I don't know how long the current "sorta-working" status will last. The saved game is backed up safely.

With Megapol armor? More than any of us have, I suspect.

...<sounds of testing a rocket launcher ensue>...

Actually, you can carry one with a sidearm and two extra rockets with no drop in speed from your current speed with the laser rifle (85).
