Defeated Gaul.  For the first time ever.  On normal mode.  That may seem underwhelming, but to me, it's my first real achievement on RTW.

Time to conquer the world!

Only just noticed that Medieval II was using my Integrated Card -_- Bloody Optimus technology >.< Well, that explains how the game wasn't topping 30fps...kinda impressed by how it was getting 30fps off of just the CPU with all graphics settings at maximum actually 0_o

Just in time for school to start! I hope this doesn't ruin my semester. I guess I'll just run the torrent for 24 hours or something.

Is it worth it to buy the kingdoms expansion? I have the base version I got soon after launch day and wondered if it was worth getting it.

Definitely.  It has a few excellent campaigns and most mods require it.

The campaigns are fun if you're into the specific period each is set in. I got my money's worth from the baltic campaign alone.

"Rage of Dark Gods" is a great mod, but the mod team really needs to work on a better system for installation.

Following the guidelines in this thread to the letter is the best method. I really must emphasise following them carefully, I thought I was but turned out I was messing up the order for the patches.

First off: In the thread I've linked to, download the torrent and install the three parts in numerical order, if you haven't already.

Second, download all the patches in the thread. Patch 005 and the five quickfixes.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

I can't really say this will give you a completely bug-free installation for the mod, as the game relies so heavily on scripts it trips over them frequently. My current game as the Vampire Counts hasn't crashed, but I haven't really gotten beyond about turn 25.

There is at least one mod released which removes a good deal of the scripting (army spawning and so on) which would most likely make the mod more stable, as well as allow a more "take over the world" game type rather than the "survive hordes of enemies" it is by default.

Thanks Mech! I will look into that, and would be interested in the more take over the world kind of mod you spoke of, it would be more fitting to my skill, and as you said more stable.

The only one that is out that I am aware of is called "Call of Warsandbox". It removes most of the scripting and, at least plans to, add a few things to keep it interesting (like how Orcs spawn large armies when their capital is taken or something).

There are a few other ones planned like "The Hardcore Fantasy Battle Campaign" and while they show a lot of promise, I believe the creator is waiting for version 1.6 of the mod to come out before continuing work on that submod.
