Any one know how to get Rage of The Dark gods to work well?
"Rage of Dark Gods" is a great mod, but the mod team really needs to work on a better system for installation.
Following the guidelines in this thread to the letter is the best method. I really must emphasise following them carefully, I thought I was but turned out I was messing up the order for the patches.
First off: In the thread I've linked to, download the torrent and install the three parts in numerical order, if you haven't already.
Second, download all the patches in the thread. Patch 005 and the five quickfixes.
First install the patch(es)
Patches Patch 005 - (version 1.1.00) - 223MB
•- Combined all previous patches and quick fixes
•- enabled battle editor
•- Added adapted patch 1.5.1
Torrent download: Extract the attachment to get the torrent file, run it and then download as usual. Once completed run the EXE file (Rage of dark Gods patch 005). The second file will be automatically used\installed.
Regular download: Download part1 and part2 (Media Fire), place them in one directory and then run the EXE file (Rage of dark Gods patch 005). The second file will be automatically used\installed.
And then the quickfixes in numerical order
Quick fixes Quickfix 20120526 - RodG - descr_strat (26th May)
•There has been delayed recruitment at the start of the game, due to a wrong sequence of buildings
Extract the attachment into the imperial_campaign folder
Quickfix 20120613 - RodG - projectile crash fix (13th June)
•The original projectiles for the Earth shaker cannon and the doom diver catapult are working now
•The night Goblin faction is now playable in custom battles - they own the catapult
Extract the attachment into the data folder
Quickfix 20121117 - RodG - battle_models (23rd November 2012)
•Fixes the texture for the Knight_Orden_blazing_sun model.
Extract the attachment into the data\unit_models folder
20140214 - RodG - data (14th February 2014)
•Removes duplicate triggers from EDA and EDCT.
•Adds updated campaign_script kindly linked to by Merikallio
Extract the attachment into the Rage_of_dark_Gods folder
20140414 - RodG - campaign_script (14th April 2014)
•Corrects Really Bad AI version in campaign_Script
Extract the attachment into the \data\world\maps\campaign\imperial_campaign folder
I can't really say this will give you a completely bug-free installation for the mod, as the game relies so heavily on scripts it trips over them frequently. My current game as the Vampire Counts hasn't crashed, but I haven't really gotten beyond about turn 25.
There is at least one mod released which removes a good deal of the scripting (army spawning and so on) which would most likely make the mod more stable, as well as allow a more "take over the world" game type rather than the "survive hordes of enemies" it is by default.
