Have to say: The AI is very suicidal in both rome and medievil total war.

I like suicidal. In shogun, while I love that game so much because the AI is more careful battles take about five minutes to get started because they maneuver so much. It gets tedious, loved it at first, slowly gaining hate for it.

The first battle in a Chosokabe campaign always annoys me.  AI runs up the hill and then just sits there, waiting.

the easier you play, the less defensively the AI play on defense. on the easiest level, they just charge at you unless sieged.

this has been true on every total war I've played except for shogun II. (that exclude just napoleon, btw).

there are some interesting ai mod both for rome and medieval.

I want them to take all their improvements and take it back to medieval again. So many different units, you could actually control every single faction on the map except the ones caused by events. It'd be glorious. But that's mainly because I love that timeline more than any other.

Total War: Three Kingdoms would be nice. China in the 300th century.

They already used catapults, trebuchets, crossbows, etc. already back then. It'd be nice to see an ACTUAL historical take on that period instead of... this:

And the army sizes of that period were actually bigger than most of the armies fielded in Europe in 1200. Millions of combatants across a very varied landscape. The only differences would be:
1. Everyone speaking Mandarin
2. Barely anyone has armour

I just want Medieval 3 to be honest.  Failing that, Total War: Viking Invasions would be pretty awesome.

I believe china will have guns in the 300th century. By chance do you mean the 4th century?

As it turns out, the pen was in fact a poor choice for melee combat in comparison to the sword.
So I just started playing this game and I accidentally nuked the moon.

I was suspecting they'd make a Chinese Total War (Early AD's, Three kingdoms era) right before they announced Shogun II.

There were many warring factions, you had the navies, warriors, peasant levies, cavalry. The works. You have a lot of varying geography to fight on. From the desolate mountains to the fertile coasts. But what got me the most was the prospect of repeating crossbows. It would be cool to see them in a game. It would also be nice to get fresh geography for a change, Japan has been in two games, Europe has had both medievals, rome, empire and napoleon but we've never had China on its own. Not to mention the level of detail the modding community could further inject into the game. Oh well, maybe next time.

I don't really hold any time period above any other so I would just like to see a little change from the Eurocentric setting we've been getting (though Shogun 2 was a breath of fresh air in that regard). With my luck the next release will be Rome 2 with DLCs for plumed helmets.
