Taking capitals seems to be a good way at making a hostile nation want peace. Also, if you get real friendly with the Papacy, no one will mess with you.

In any case, I've recently obtained RTW. As I didn't see a RTW thread however, I decided to pop in here, :P

And it's my first time playing a TW series game, but it's rather quite fun. My latest feat of slaughtering an army of 300 with only 30 was rather thrilling and it's rather addictive, ;). Although I think it kind of lacks in the diplomacy and the state-running aspects but I'm assuming that's not supposed to be the focus of the game so it's rather fine.

Only thing that bothers me is the CTD I get frequently when I happen to conquer Narbo Martius or whatever.

30 Vs 300? What unit sizes are you playing on.

Also if your playing RTW... DOWNLOAD EUROPA BARBARORUM.

http://www.europabarbarorum.com/

I should really lets play that mod. :P

As far as crashes, RTW was always stable for me so I dunno.

Medium, my computer can't take anything larger, I'm afraid. :(

Nor the extra HD space from EB, although I have heard it is a great mod. I'll try to clear some things out, but I probably won't be able to play it though.

I actually don't like Europa Barbarorum. Its fun the first time you take an army and slaughter your way to rome, but that's about it.

currently playing the danes.

heavy infantry all the way!

seriously, norse archers are essentialy infantry with bows. you get them, you dont have to send up the melle squads to wipe out a seige.
also good for rushing enemy archers since they dont expect it. I have collapsed a fair few millan armys by rushing their crossbow men with archers so they run away and my melle force can close in and butcher their infantry line. and using limited cavalry for clean up/moral breaking.

i wiped out a 600 strong milan army with around 40 losses when my army was 1100- because they never, ever, make an army primeraly of propper infantry.

i got bored of wipping everyone senslessly with the english, hence why i tried danes. their late game halibeurs are great for seige defence as well.

I recommend Hungary. Heavy Cavalry AND Cavalry Archers is a damn fine unit set.

Man speaks the truth.  Hungarian cavalry, and the mercenaries in the area, are some rough tough units.  England is pretty solid too, being basically the Tutorial faction.

Also, fight battles in the open whenever you can, even on the defensive.  The pathfinding inside cities is a thing of horrible, horrible legend.

I like playing as Scotland myself, bumrushing england as fast as possible before setting up a more normal power structure. Though when I'm in the mood for silly fun I play as Hungry or an Islamic faction and spam assassins until I can make their battlefield assassin units.

Croat Axemen are also great bang for their buck, as long as you don't overcommit them. Their charge is pretty sweet. Though I may be a bit biased as a Croat ;)

In my Medieval game, I control ALL of England, France, Germany, nearly all of Italy, a bit of the Iberian and part of the Balkans. I have the largest military force in the game, and the Mongols are still around. (But they have not taken ANYTHING.) Gunpowder has just been discovered (Which I do not like. I hate gunpowder in the game), I control Rome (And beaten back the Papal Guard. Those guys are HARDCORE man.), I have been crusaded againist at least once (and it ended early die to the capture of Rome and cease-fires), there are roits in some of my cities (Dispite million man garrisons and my constant building of Happiness buildings), and I am pimping a lot of gold. (Though most of it goes down the drain for recruitment and building.)

So yeah, I'm doing pretty good.
