The Routing is the bug, units aren't supposed to Rout while defending the square.

The forts, I mean, city fights I can understand. I did appreciate though that they routed off the map rather than stupidly fighting to the death as if there wasn't a giant expanse around them ripe for fleeing.

Also, watching peasants with nail-boards whittle away my troop numbers over the course of about ten minutes whilst constantly wavering pisses me the hell off because I know I'll win, just that I'll lose men doing it, it's boring to watch and there's no other option.

Thankfully they no longer fight to the death in Shogun 2, they just get a moral bonus.

Continuing my campaign of swearing under my breath trying to get this goddamn game to work.

EDIT: It actually worked once. Wahahahaha. AHAHA. AHAHAHAAAAAAAAAAAA.

Excuse me. It's stopped now, so I have to go back to swearing under my breath.

Mongolswhaaaa?
Also, I'm a cheating bastard, so I own all of Europe. However, the only two nations I've destroyed are the Byzantines, and the Venetians. However, I am in position to take out every European faction besides Denmark, Poland, Portugal, and Spain. Russia too, if you count them.

Necro, but I had to say this.

In Realms & Provinces I've managed to bring Venice up pretty respectably. About a tenth of my turns used but I now hold the Iberian peninsula, the British Isles, all of the coast of the Mediterranean sea and the Black sea, and I've pocketed the papacy. I dug in early by getting a win in the first election and stacking the College of Cardinals ever since, making every Pope ever Venetian. I've taken out Milan, the Holy Roman Empire, the Byzantine Empire, the British, the Irish, the Republic of Genoa, Sicily, Spain, Portugal, and France. I think I might have won by now if Hungary and Denmark didn't declare war on the same people as me and steal my rightful provinces. Freaking vultures.

Just as a totally random comment, I heartily recommend Stainless Steel for historical gaming and Call of Warhammer for fantasy. (While waiting for Europa Barbarorum II.) Both mods give the game lots of new life, they are the reason I still play M:TW II, while I've pretty much forgotten Empire.

Scripted events in Call of Warhammer are annoying though, the submod that removes them isn't yet released. The game occasionally spawns huge enemy armies right at your doorstep, but at least in this version you get a message telling a Chaos horde is marching for your capital... Then the game spawns the horde a few turns after that and you can actually intercept. In older versions the horde just spawned next to your capital and attacked, in addition to forcing you defend manually.

But note that no one else had their number of territories go up...Did the AI raise taxes so high that it was rioted out of existence?

There are more than six factions in the game. Quite a few more.

Okay, I'm in a spot of trouble with stainless steel. On startup of the mod itself it finds an unspecififed error a shuts down. Any help with this?

For Medieval 2: Total War, right? Did you buy the game through Steam? Do you have M2:TW Kingdoms installed?

Don't worry, I did it myself. Just required a re-install.

Is Stainless Steel everything it's cracked up to be?
